Hi Everyone. I have been on Atkins for 5 months now and I've lost 50 pounds so far. My goal was 60 (but now that I'm almost there I'm thinking more like 75 - 90...but we'll see!) Anyhow...in the past month I have started to lose my hair!!!! I was on extended induction for most of this journey...so I'm wondering if that was the case and I wasn't getting enough of something! I went to the doctor and he said it was lack of iron and prescibed me iron pills. I went to get my blood taken as well and we'll see the results in a week or so. Does anybody have any other suggestions that could help? I've basically started eating most of the rungs in OWL within reason and have started upping my exercise quite a bit to compensate. I'm torn between staying on strict Atkins and going bald...or quitting this diet and getting fat again. I'm only 26 and don't want to have lost all this weight for all my hair to fall out!!!!!! HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: hair loss...HELP!!!!!
Definately don't quit ... that would be your biggest mistake to revert back to old ways and just become fat. This has been addressed on another thread that I think you will find useful...Good luck!

Re: hair loss...HELP!!!!!
Hey! Hang in there! I can relate! I am the original author of the thread that Missmel posted in the message above. The hair loss was freaking me out! Anyhow, in addition to the information given by the ADDB'ers on the thread, I might tell you this. I recently talked to a Weight Watchers meeting lecturer and ask her if she knew anything about this or if WW adresses the issue. She had lost 70 lbs. herself on WW and said that the hair loss even happened to her! (My point! Noone can blame the Atkind Diet!) She said that her hair really thinned out but she never went bald! She said it took about 3 or 4 months to thicken back up.
I also asked my Dr. about it and he said that this is a normal condition under the circumstances that my body has been undergoing. (i.e. weight loss due to better eating habits!) However, if you have not had your thyroid levels checked you need to rule that out first and make sure you are in normal ranges!
Good luck! Just know you are not alone!
Blessings!
