  • Shakes and OWL. What do you think?

Ok! I am not referring to the kind of shakes you get when your cold! Ha! Ha! I am looking forward to having some whey protein shakes because I swore them off in the extended induction phase because I always read on the board that they stalled people.

So, now that I am moving on into OWL, is it acceptable to have a shake here and there?

you've only got 5 pounds to go and you're asking that? lol.. I'm so envious of you!!

I've been able to keep on losing with an 'emergency' low carb shake once in a while...
    2-15-10 194.8 - highest ever!
    2-20-10 190.4 - new scale
    3-20-10 177.8 - 1 month
    5-10-10 169.8 - 25 pounds gone!

Frankly, you should have moved onto OWL alot sooner than now because your last 5 to 10 pounds are to be lost during Pre-Maintenance. But since you choose not to do that, you'll need to start slowing down your weight loss and start figuring out how different foods affect your body and how many carbs your body needs to maintain weight.

Anyhow, about the protein shakes...OWL/Pre-Maintenance is the time to experiment. So go for it if you want to.

I'm glad that I could provide a laugh for you Peytonn! Thanks for the advice on what shakes have done for you.

Not2late, I realize that I should have already transitioned into OWL sooner, I discussed this error of mine in a different thread. Anyhow, I was so focused on Extended Induction to reach my goal, I kept reading over and over the parts in DANDR that pertained to this. When I got near my goal and read further along in the book, I realized that I had messed up and that I should have transitioned into OWL sooner.

I think I will be "OK" though, as I am planning on dropping my goal weight to 155 or 160. 170 was the number I picked when I first started this WOE. I just pulled that number out of the air because I didn't have any idea what my ideal weight should be.

Thanks again for the input. I greatly appreciate it. I think I will go make me a shake now! Ha! Ha!

        Blessings!

Yeah, they tend to overlook in the Extended Induction forum that the example of the person who stayed on Induction until goal had a high metabolic resistance to weight loss. They also overlook the sentence in DANDR 2002 that says only people who have severe metabolic derangements can benefit from staying on Induction longer than 14 days in order to "fix" those metabolic derangements....

Anyhow, if you're changing your goal, then by all means go through OWL traditionally---just remember you have to make it through the OWL rungs AND spend the last 5-10 pounds in Pre-Maintenance.
