  • Nuts are Evil!

    So I recently moved on to the nuts and seeds rung. In the past I had problems with eating cashews and going out of control with them. I swear I could eat a whole can at once. So, at the beginning of July I swore them off and started OWL the right way. And I did great!

    Well, so when I got to the nuts rung, I still decided that I wouldn't touch cashews, but I would try other nuts. Well, they are all EVIL to me. I cannot control myself with them in the house. So, I am vowing to not buy anymore nuts to have at home. Even though I went out of control with them, I still lost a pound, so I am assuming I can tolerate them well. Because of this, I will still allow myself to eat nuts as a treat at a party, or buy them in those little serving size pouches when I need something when I'm on the go, but I will not keep any at home to avoid going overboard. That is my vow.

    This weekend I'm going to move on to berries and melon and see how that goes for me. I hope it goes better for me than the nut rung. I have never been a big berry eater, so I don't think I'll have the control issue that I did with nuts. I do really like cantelope though.

    I do still want to say that I LOVE OWL! It has been the best move I have ever made. Since moving on, my weightloss has picked up and I've los 10 pounds in my first month and a half. I LOVE OWL! WOO HOO!

    Hey, you know what I do? I eat shelled peanuts because it takes more work to get into them. I eat about 10 shells...which is 20 peanuts. I figured that to be about 1.75 net carbs. Then later for dessert I have about 1 1/2 tbsp of natural peanut butter (about 3 net carbs) and splenda and for the nuts all day it comes to right under 5 net carbs. I just measure everything out, then put the rest away for another day so I won't go over the allowed 5 net carbs/day.

      up canned nuts are evil try eating raw un processed nuts when you want nuts that you have to shell yourself and have them already divided up in the one ounce post shelling servings. I keep mine in the freezer too. by the time I've shelled and toasted the nuts with some spices the urge to gobble them has passed and I can enjoy the return on all that work.

        Nikki, I'm the same way. I'd like to say that nuts don't affect my weight loss, but they sure do make me crazy. I bought pistachios this week for the reason that the others have mentioned. I can snack on them for about 2 hours, and I only eat about 1/5th as many as I would have eaten if I had a bowl of peanuts or cashews. But still, the point is that I go way overboard. I should do what you do and stop buying them, but know that I can eat them at a party or buy them in single serving packs.

        I've also noticed that I stop eating from all the rungs, but I'll overeat on nuts instead. I barely get my induction level of veggies in, and I never eat my extra dairy. I bought berries twice, but never have them on hand like I do with nuts. I'd probably have a lot more variety in my day if I dropped the nuts.

          I have to measure out my nuts to or I will be in big trouble! Nikki, that's great to hear your weight loss is better on OWL. I hope I can enjoy the same benefits. You are doing great with your goals and staying away from those evil nuts.
