  • Takin a day off...Dr.'s Orders...

So I've been having this pain in my right side...I've gone to the doctor twice and she keeps telling me that it's just gas. (She isn't my normal doctor...he is on vacation this week). I don't think she's right, but hey, she's a doctor. Her orders were to follow a bland diet, rice, chicken, toast, etc. She told me to stay away from vegetables too. Obviously, this is not low-carb friendly. So I figure to humor her and to prove her wrong (or who knows, maybe she is right) today I will take a break from low carb and try to eat the said "bland" diet. Chicken, turkey breast (these are low carb, I know), etc. For breakfast though, there are not many options, and I have not been feeling like chicken/turkey in the AM, so today I had a bagel for breakfast. This doesn't worry me, I'm not freaking out, b/c I know I can go back tomorrow and I will be fine. I also know I can eat relatively low carb for all of my other meals. I have been in OWL veggie rung for a couple of weeks now, and I am wondering if when I go back tomorrow I should go back to Induction for a week or so? Or should I just pick up where I left off. This is not something I wanted to do, but I worry about a pain that lasts over 2 days on my right side. Can't wait till MY doctor is back this week...*sigh*...that bagel made me sleepy...

Go ahead and follow the doctor's orders. But just remember this, the toast and rice she's recommending is from something called the BRAT diet. BRAT stands for bananas, rice, apples and toast (or tea). The BRAT diet is an outdated treatment for diarrhea. In light of the fact that she wants you to avoid vegetables (ie fiber) and wants you to substitute foods that will constipate you, when you return to our normal diet, you might want to be sure to eat those vegetables again.

Typically you won't have to go back to Induction again, unless you're out of ketosis. And in that case, you only need to stay in Induction for 2 or 3 days then move back to where you were on OWL. Since you are on Rung 1 and most likely have only added 5 net carbs, you might not need to do Induction again, but just pick up where you left off--especially if you have an average to low degree of metabolic resistance to weight loss (which you figured out from your 14 day Induction results)

      Hey Lauren,

Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well, this pain in your right side is it up under your rib cage or lower down? Obviously, you have to follow your doctor's advice, but when I have gas, I eat celery with cream cheese on it, for some reason, it fixes me right up! Hope you feel better soon!

        (((Lauren)))

How are you doing? My local doc and nurses thought I had gas, but it *was* appendicits. I sure hope whatever was causing your pain is over with now!

since she is treating you for gas and has told you to eliminate the gas producing veggies from your diet why don't you try one of the OTC products that are enzymes to break down the gas producing vegies and allow you to eat them in peace? Beano is one commonly found one.

you will not be fine as you stated eating bagels and then going back to low carb either as the higher blood sugar levels will cause your body to appear diabetic should any one test you and that is not a fine state to be in. Uncontrolled blood sugar is much more dangerous then gas pains.
