  • Rung Questions..lots!

    Hello!
I am moving up to Dairy rung tomorrow. If I have read past posts right...I cannot add yoghurt unless it is plain (YUCK!). I can only added fruit flavored yoghurt once I am at the berry rung??
Whenever I am allowed to add it won't it be like adding 2 food groups at the same time? So would that be all I added for my week?
There wasn't much else I was thinking of adding to my eating plan from dairy...I am pretty happy with the 3 oz limit...I usually eat 2-3 oz a day. I am not into the cottage cheese. I add heavy cream to my soups but even that is not a daily thing and can't think of a drink or anything to make. Unless I did a decaf coffee thing?? That might be nice to sit and have on the porch with DH. Though I have not had any coffee since starting and my splenda intake is less than one a day...only if a recipe calls for it...and I would need splenda. Can I make a hot choc? Is powder cocoa allowed? I could whip the cream and make a dessert...but I haven't been having that either and really don't think I want to start that habit.
Can I add cream to some Protein Powder for a shake? Can I even have Protein Powder??
When do you add stuff like cocoa, protein powder, Atkin's bake mix, Whey powder..etc??
I am sure I can think of a million more to ask but lets see what gets answered here first. Thanks!

I don't know about all the other questions.. but when I got bumped it OWL, it was because I was eating the low carb blue bunny yogurt. It's 5 g carbs per 6 oz. cup.. Vanilla.. and it's GOOD!!! so I ate it on the first rung...

If it's legal for your rung, then it's legal to eat. So, if you are given a bowl of chili and it contains pinto beans. That chili isn't "legal" for you until you get to the legumes rung.

As for plain yogurt, you can mix that with pumpkin puree, vanilla extract, pumpkin pie spice, sweetener (if you use it), ice and maybe some water. Put it in a blender, and blend until smooth for a pumpkin pie smoothie. Likewise, you can do the same thing using rhubarb. This is also a good way of getting your veggies into your diet.

Cocoa: it's a seed, so I think it properly belongs to the Nuts/Seed rung. Others will use it during Induction, claiming it's a spice. Yeah, okay it's a spice, BUT do you use 1 tablespoon of cinnamon or nutmeg to flavor 1 serving of something? Most recipes don't because spices and herbs are generally potent enough in flavor that you don't need to use them in large quantities. That's why I don't buy into the "cocoa is a spice" rationale.

Protein powders: they come in all shapes and forms. But if you want you can use a protein isolate, which is more purified protein than a concentrate.

you probably weren't around then... I made a big deal out of this yogurt I'd found... low carb.... I was on induction... about my 14th day I guess....

well after being chastised for eating yogurt on induction... somebody pointed out that I COULD have it if I moved to OWL.... I ... kept the yogurt, ditched induction... and went to OWL.... eating my Vanilla Blue bunny yogurt!

You can make yogurt interesting. I used to add vanilla extract & almonds to mine for breakfast. [Once I hit the nuts/seeds rung.] Yummy.

                Re: Rung Questions..lots!

Well...3 stores later and still no Blue Bunny Yogurt. Will phone around to a couple of other stores in the area. Thanks for all the ideas on what to do with it. I am excited to try it. I wasn't a big yogurt eater before but do want to add it to my WOE..along with a little nuts...oh this WOE is soooo hard...LOL!

The pumpkin smoothie sounds yummy! Now I hadn't tried pumpkin yet. I wanna try it...am wondering if the kids would try it...LOL...sneaky!! And being as it is a vegie I won't think of it as a dessert..LOL! So since I haven't done the pumpkin yet can I do both at the same time? The yogurt and the pumpkin? What about if I decide to try a different vegie that I hadn't tried before while I am on the dairy rung or higher??

See...told you I would have more questions! LOL!

Thanks for all the info...learned a lot today already.

Oh my...are you aware that they even have a blackberry smoothie that is 5g and 10 oz??
Am emailing them to see if they sell in Canada.

I've not seen any of their products where I live. I'm in southern Ontario.

Well so much for that....to ask them a question you have to fill in a bunch of info and they have all the states listed and Puerto Rico but I guess they don't want to hear from other places as there is not another option. And you HAVE to fill it all in.
So I am going to assume that NO...they do not sell it here in Canada. So now what?

I'm in Canada too, and I buy Astro's Balkan Style Natural Yogurt. Its just slightly over 5g for a 125g serving, so I just bring my serving size down to about 100g, and everything's peachy.

funny you should say that - I was going to suggest looking for Greek Yogurt which I guess is a similar product. Thick and creamy and I find I can eat it without sweetener and my DH loves it with some splenda added.

A whole cup of it is 6 carbs but I usually only have about a third of that.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
