Hi everyone, I haven't posted in a while but I need some support. I have not lost any weight or inches in 4 weeks. I have made sure I haven't gone over my carbs or calories per day, and I am still stuck.

    My typical daily meal is:

    Breakfast:

    1 egg
    3 pieces of bacon

    Lunch:
Whatever I had for dinner the night before

    Dinner:

A low carb meal, recipe off of the recipe page from this site, carbs ususally between 2 and 8 grams of carbs.

    Snack:

either peanuts, 4 grams or pork skins 0 grams.

I walk about a mile a day. I do a half a mile in the morning and a half a mile in the evening.

Do I need to step up my exercise? I can't figure out why I am stuck.

    Thanks everyone for your help.

    Susan

    Re: Stuck

Question: do you have a tendency towards either a peanut allergy or candida?

Do you take any medications which may hamper weight loss or suffer from any maladies which may produce a slow in weight loss?

How quickly have you been climbing the OWL rungs, and how long have you been doing Atkins? Have you been strict, or have you fudged a little?

Also, how many pork skins do you eat? Do you measure, or do you just eat a handful, etc? I was stalled but fortunately realized the pork rinds were the culprit. Take a look at the calories--most I have seen have 80 cals per half OUNCE. Thats right, HALF an ounce. There are 8 oz. in a cup, I think. So multiply 80 by 16...that's a really big number. And a cup of porkrinds is really about a handful. I am happier without them! Also, nuts are very calorie dense and it is easy to eat too many of those. So maybe try having veggies as a snack instead! Carbs matter, but calories do too in this case.

        Also, what's your CCLL?
Did you add anything new to your diet that coincides with your plateau?
Are you being strict about measuring and counting everything you eat and drink?

Once you rule out the obvious then, you can pretty much say you have reached a plateau.

A plateau is completely normal. Just review what you've been doing and keep at it. Once your body is ready to begin losing weight again, it will.

are you making sure to get in your salad veggies? if not, maybe you should try having one for lunch. making sure you're not going over your cheese limit or using any sauces with hidden sugars?

maybe you should vary your exercise some. or at least try walking at different intensities or inclines than you're used to. I don't have access to a gym and don't really like outdoor activities, so I bought a couple of workout dvd sets. I switch it up between different cardio ones, kick boxing, pilates, yoga, dance ones etc. it helps keep me interested too.

it might help to do some exercises with light weights to help tone and build up your muscle (so you burn more).

is this a weight that you were at for a long time in the past? I've heard that often people's bodies want to stay at the weights they were most comfortable with in the past and it takes a while to get past that stall (I sort of experienced that, but it was also related to eating not exactly on plan).

also, your signature says you're in Rung 2, so if that's the case, you should wait on the peanuts until you're on that rung. I personally have lots of problems with nuts, I just can't stop eating them once I start, and they make me hungrier.

well that's all I can think of. good luck kick starting the weight loss again! and congrats on your progress so far.
Sorry everyone. I've had to abandon Atkins. After slipping up, I gained back everything and more. I fully believe in and support Atkins, I know it works, but it's too hard for me. I'm following my own plan now, exercising more, eating less in general and healthier, still focusing more on veggies and fruits and whole grains and much less processed junk and bad carbs. I still visit here occasionally, so I will keep my stats listed here when I do. I wish everyone the best on this program or any others that work for you.

            Re: Stuck

I haven't updated my rungs yet. But I am on nuts. It all started when the hurricane came and I had no electricy for a couple of days. That is when I moved up to the peanut rung and started eating pork rinds. I do get my veggies in. I usually eat a salad with my lunch and we always have a veggie with dinner. My favorite dish is the spinach and ground beef casserole that I got off this website, so I eat that about once a week. I do not eat over 30 carbs a day. I will watch my portions and calories also and see if that is the culprit. I used to be at 214 for a long time, then gained more weight, so maybe I will start losing again. I do take hormones, but for the first 2 months that wasn't giving me a problem with losing weight with this WOE and I am pre-diabetic so I take diabetes medicine. I will check my portions and calorie intake and see if I am messing up with that. Since my weight lost stopped when I added peanuts, I will stop eating that too.

            Thanks for y'alls help.

              Re: Stuck

Nuts stall me. They never used to. NOW they do. You may have developed an intolerance to them and may want to have an allergist test you for this.

Dr A also says that if you stall, you may want to 'up' your carb intake just a little. You could try 3 carbs per week.

Frankly, I was where you are now just 2 weeks ago and I went back to induction. Now I'm losing again--but that's what I did. I don't reciommend people do what I do just because I'm doing it. It's just a thought. Regarding induction, I think sometimes we're eating things we don't know that don't agree with us while in OWL. Right now I'm trying to figure out if it's the yogurt, the flax or what! The induction diet ends up helping me rotate through the foods which may or may not be causing me the troubles I'm having. I'm also considering seeing an allergist to find out which foods I should be staying away from. I certainly hope I'm not lactose intolerant.

Hang in there! You've done wonderfully so far!

                Re: Stuck

I've been stalled at 185 for a couple weeks. Now I'm thinking it may be the peanuts I've been eating. Carbs and calories wise I've still been way within my targets (2700 calories, 30 carbs a day). I'm averaging around 22 carbs and 1700 calories though, calorie is low (may not be good as I've learned from posting question on another thread). But instead of increasing my calories, I started exercising instead. I joined a gym last week and worked out for an hour every day except saturday burning a combined 500 calories per day on the treadmill, ski machine, stair climbers, and weights. The result? I gained 1 pound! Sheeshers! I'm feeling a lot more fit and do look more toned, but am very disappointed in not having lost any weight. I'm making it a routine to go to the gym until I see results.

I'm at 185 lbs. As I read this thread, what really interested me is knowing that some people tend to stall at the weight their body is most accustomed to. I was at exactly 185lbs throughout my teen years. Wierd. I'm going to give up the peanuts and continue the excerising. If I don't get results by end of this week, I'm going to have to try something more drastic like adding more carbs (then more calories even).

Don't sweat the 1 pound weight gain. When you begin exercise, sometimes your muscles "horde" water. So that 1 pound "gain" might be water weight and will go away once your muscles get used to exercising.

IF you think the peanuts are the culprits, drop them from your diet for a week or two and see what happens. I can't eat certain nuts because they stall me.

Hi everyone, just wanted to let y'all know that I didn't eat any peanuts this week and I lost 1lb. Thanks for all y'alls help. Know I am guessing it was the peanuts. Re: Stuck

good for you one thing you do need to start adjusting is you should be spreading your carbs out to every meal so you have stable blood sugar levels all day. You don't want to save them up for dinner and bolus your carbs that will mess with your ketosis and your craving controls.

Aslo since you are low carbing and should be stable ask your doc about your med levels and see if you need them adjusted downward. Check our diabetic forum about that.

And yep more exercise is needed remember Dr Atkins said both resistance and aerobic were required.

                      Happy OLWIng.

Congratulations on maybe finding a staller!!
Though strictly speaking peanuts are a legume so should be left till that rung (I know some people here seem to be fine treating them as becoming legal on the nuts rung but you may be an exception).
Maybe if you try them again when you get to that rung you might be OK to eat them.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
