  • I just grossed myself out...

Occasionally I'll buy an apple and eat it over the course of a few days. I think I've eaten about 3 apples since September...I really mean 'occasionally'. I find that I'm happy with 1/4 of an apple chopped up with walnuts in yogurt.

Tonight I took my 1/4 apple, sliced it thin, and dipped it in a little crunchy peanut butter.

I ate it, but honestly, it was disgustingly sweet, and I won't be doing that again.

This coming from a woman who could eat half a batch of nanaimo bars at one sitting and not bat an eye....lol

I don't think I'll ever be at that point... of course I'm not at my weight goal yet either.. but I think I could easily eat a peck of apples of any given day....

I wish I was more 'dedicated'....

It still amazes me how quickly our tastes change.

Obviously all for the better, I cant imagine anything worse now than eating the way I used too. Thanks for the post Carol.

And people think I'm nuts when i say veggies taste sweet to me.

So what is your next too sweet for me goal? If you want the crunch you could try one of the sour apples like a granny Smith.

Re: I just grossed myself out...

I'll tell you a little secret...lol....I really don't care that much for apples...which is why I choose to have them once in a while because the likelihood of me going crazy and eating a whack of apples is pretty low.
I don't hate them, but when I think of an apple, it doesn't get me fired up the way say a peach or a nectarine does.
I'll probably try a granny smith next time, but as I said, this is such a rare thing that I'm not too worked up about it. I still feel gaggy about this this morning...lol

And yes, veggies taste sweet! We had an amazing spaghetti squash the other night that had some sweetness to it. Sometimes they taste cardboardy, but this is the season for them I guess.
And green beans are sweet also, I find.

Re: I just grossed myself out...

ok.. I see... so you eating an apple would be like me eating..... hmmmm... a kiwi.. they're ok.. but nothing I crave.. or go crazy about...

apples, pears, peaches, nectarines.. all that stuff would be a trigger for me.. I guess growing up on a farm, with a few fruit trees, grape vines, and blueberry bushes.. strawberries and wild blackberries... I'll probably never even TRY to give it up completely... just work it into my daily allowance...

I kept losing this summer while eating peaches from my trees.. and blueberries from my bushes... because I was so ACTIVE.. now that I'm back at work... well.. you know..

I DO understand what you're saying about the sweetness though...

I still have a few little cherry tomatoes on the vine in my flower bed.... no frost at my house yet.. and when I spy a ripe one.. I pop it in my mouth right there on the spot.. and it's SOOOOO sweet... so I do understand what you're saying....

granny smith is about the most tart one I know of... so maybe that would taste better for you... I like the very FIRM apples.. I don't like mushy fruit...

Good for you Moochiecat! I was noticing the difference in myself, too. I was hungry on the way to our assembly this weekend and picked up a Protein Plus LC chocolate bar and it tasted SOOOOO sweet. I could even taste the sugar alcohols in it. It was like eating a bar of chocolate cough syrup. I never really liked them before but was never able to pinpoint exactly why but since my tastes ahave changed - I figured it out. Ewwwww......

I understand. I had a bite of corn one day (used to be my favorite favorite favorite veggie). Well, it was so awful & sweet that I can't stand to think about corn anymore. Our tastes do change after being on Atkins for a while. And thats a good thing. If we still craved those foods, we'd be right back where we started from before we know it.

I haven't tried anything yet since no wonderful fruit is in season right now, but I am hoping by the summer I can be at a place where a few strawberries will be allowed. There are only a few things I miss really. I will miss summer berries, I already miss skim milk and apples, but really that is all that comes to mind right now. I am glad my tastes are changing.

Alot of fruits are too sweet for my tastes now and I can't eat more than 1/4-1/2 cup of it.

Re: I just grossed myself out...

I notice that with even whipping cream. I can put it on blueberries or something similar, and not bother adding splenda or any other AS. I just don't WANT things as sweet as before.

Even if I've indulged in a SF candy; sometimes I find that is too sweet, as well. I'm happy with veggies; raw (or frozen) berries, perhaps a slice of pear (even that can get too sweet, depending on the type).

Fruit just doesn't have that same appeal as it once did. I could have a section of orange, and that would suffice.

Strange how things change in our desires for things, even if we are at the level where we could add them into the menu.

Re: I just grossed myself out...

I've said this before, but the highlight of my day Pre-Atkins, was the 'treat' I had tucked away in the fridge, freezer, or cupboard at home. I'd shovel down dinner so that there would be a respectable amount of time between that and my treat. It was my obsession, when I look back on it now.
I still get excited about foods, but the foods are different, (I had a few rapturous moments with fresh raspberries, walnuts, Torani sf vanilla syrup and yogurt this summer...lol) and I don't revolve my day around them like I used to.
It's a good feeling to eat an Atkins-friendly treat, enjoy it and not have to bury the guilt!

Yes, I totally agree. I love the guiltless feeling when I know I've done well all day on my WOE. I remember too many nights going to bed feeling like a failure.
