  • Consumption Cyling

I was looking on a UK Men's forum where the focus is fitness and certainly not low carb. They were discussing the later stages of weight loss and advocating a gradually reducing intake before returning to the top again.

    For example

2000 cals per day for two weeks
1800 cals per day for two weeks
1600 cals per day for two weeks
1500 cals per day for two weeks

2000 cals per day for two weeks
    etc

In the later stages of Atkins calorie counting becomes important for many.

How does thin cycling fit in with the Atkins approach.

I presume it prevents the onset of "starvation mode"
Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
    he said, 'Don't count calories.'

You sort of "do" a natural calorie "cycling" during Atkins, if you follow Dr. A.'s advise of listening to your body by only eating that amount of food that satisfies your hunger, etc.

I don't eat the same number of calories every single day. Some days I eat more; some days I eat less. This is because some days I'm hungrier than other days. I've re-learned my natural hunger cues so I rely on them more than actually counting calories. When I'm hungry, I eat. When I'm not as hungry, I don't eat as much. So I do "cycle" my calories, but I don't follow any predetermined schedule. I just follow what my body tells me to do.

remember you are doing more exercise now too so you should be morphing on your Atkins ading lean mass while you shed your fat mass so we can be big losers even when we aren't scale losers. how are your inches looking and clothes fitting?

Yep atkins calories change up every day. Part of that cycling of clas is based on the human bodied adaptive changes your body can make more cals your metabolism gears up to burn more cals However you have to do something to burn those more cals your body is gearing up for or the body stores them.

Also as you get smaller it take the less body energy burning to do the exact same things so we either have to gear up our lifestyle with more exercise and active living or we have to cut back out caloric intake just to stay the same. Ladies loss 9 cals burned for evey pound of body weight they lose, Hav you upped your exercise in distance speed or time spend doing it for your cardio and increased ressitance for your resistance part?
