o.k. i decided to stop doing extended induction and move on to owl. i think i've mastered the veggies rung. i was consuming way less than my needed 20 day carbs on induction usually around 13-17 but i also lose a pound a day usually on induction(i've inducted several times.) most recently i just went back to induction to get myself back to losing then i started owl rung 1. i want to move to rung 2 but am afraid, and for some reason i don't fully understand how to add my next 5 grams. do i now add 5 more grams of carbs per day but from a dairy source? i'm intimidated by this and think my weightloss may begin to slow. for the first time in a while i'm under 170lbs(i will change my sig. line soon) and i want to keep going down. help me please! my inclination is to stay where i am until i get 10lbs away from goal. i realize that this might be unrealistic though since once i get to maintenance i won't be eating the way i am now. please help me successfully move up the rungs. i'm ready to try dairy...i think...

You add 5 grams more than what you were eating during Rung 1. Be careful. Many of the Dairy Rung are "new" foods because you didn't eat fresh cheeses (like cottage cheese) during Induction --or at least you shouldn't have been eating that according to the 2002 DANDR. So add 1 new food at a time. You can stay on any Rung for as long as you want. Just follow the OWL Rules. And if you stop losing weight/inches, try to figure out if it was the carb level or the new food you introduced.

OWL addition is 5 net carbs a day but only 5 net carbs af a new to you food 3 times a week. you can add more of the cheses you already had or the cream on the days you don't add your new stuff. this is where you can try to new low carb dairy stuff too but watch for any signs of loss of craving control and dump the food fast. you can add cottage cheese on M T and Th and yogurt on W,FS and something else like another ounce of cream chese on Sun. This isn't the only way you can do it it is just an example.

Gave fun remember stay away from the brown milk.

              Re: starting owl

I eat our local supermarket's 'own brand' greek yogurt which is rich and creamy and deelicious unsweetened! Once you reach the berries rung you can have blueberries in it - even more yummy!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
