  • Confusion over carb ladder

Hi I'm new to this site but have been on OWL since August 2005.

I am really confused about the order in which I should try to add back food groups.

My first attempt to move onto OWL was after the initial 2 week induction period and was attempted by adding carefully measured nuts. I got nowhere and then discovered I could stay on induction longer than 2 weeks so I went back to this. After another month however my weight loss totally stalled and after much reading online and off, I decided to try OWL again by adding berries (every day + 1 tsp heavy cream). This time I had the highest weekly weight loss then I had in any single week since the first two.

I have now discovered that I can eat nuts maybe twice a week and still lose weight, but am not sure about where I should go from here. All advice greatly accepted.

    Re: Confusion over carb ladder

    Hi Colleen,

please read the sticky regarding the OWL carb ladder. When you leave induction you should add carbs in 5-g increments from the induction food list (more nonstarchy veggies, that is). Did you read the book (DANDR 2002 edition)?

Nuts or berries are on later rungs of OWL. Please, make sure you have read the book or at least the stickies in this forum.

      Re: Confusion over carb ladder

I found this thread very useful:
      http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=5516

and this one on how to find your CCLL:

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

        Thanks to you both.

I was pretty sure I was doing this wrong but was having trouble finding information. I've got the 1999 version of NDR so will try to find a 2002 version.

I am I think at Rung 5 and apart from having difficulties in adding 5g carbs from the acceptable vegetables and turning rungs 4 & 5 around, I have actually followed the order pretty well. I am currently eating 35 to 40g carbs per day and am still losing (except when I cheat) and not much more slowly than I did on induction.

Did manage to find the 2002 edition of DANDR and have now read the OWL chapter. It's definitely much better than the 1999 edition.
