  • BBQ sauce and ketchup

I don't eat a lot of this sort of thing (a bottle of each would last me about a year!), but with summer around the corner I'll be needing a new bbq sauce and ketchup now that Atkins and Carb Options are no longer available.
We used to have two low-carb stores in town but they've both gone belly up.

If anyone has a recipe for a good bbq sauce or ketchup that'd be great, or some alternatives.
I do have a Canadian site I can order some Walden Farms bbq sauce from...has anyone had it? How is it?

I REALLY enjoy mixing bbq sauce with mayo and having that on a burger..oh man...SO good.

Is the Heinz 1 carb ketchup available in Canada? That tastes just like the regular heinz ketchup.

I live and die by that Heinz low carb ketchup. I've found it in nearly every grocery store here (regardless of how high or low end). The only advice I can give to you about making ketchup is that you need a super duper strong blender--I've tried and always comes out chunky and weird.

Could always make your own...tastier than the shops and you can put what you like in it.

BBQ sauce -- from George Stella (who rocks!) on Food Network

            29 ounces no-sugar-added tomato sauce
            6 ounces no-sugar-added tomato paste
            2 ounces bourbon
            2 tablespoons white vinegar
            2 tablespoons liquid smoke
            1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
            1/2 tablespoon hot sauce
3/4 cup sugar substitute (recommended: Splenda)
1/4 cup brown sugar substitute, optional (recommended: Sugar Twin brand)
2 tablespoons red onion, finely chopped
            1 small clove garlic, minced
            1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
            1 tablespoon kosher salt
            1 teaspoon black pepper
            1 teaspoon onion powder

Combine sauce ingredients in a bowl and whisk well to combine. Reserve, refrigerated.

Moochie, President's Choice has a blue label ketchup using Splenda. Much cheaper then the carb options used to be. There is also a bbq sauce although I didn't get a chance to read the label.

The PC blue label ketchup is great, and goes on sale for .99 occaisionally!

No there is no Heinz one carb Ketchup here though i bought some in the states and it was exactly the same as the PC one.

I usually just wing it when i make bbq sauces: ketchup base and add: worcestershire, garlic, splenda or liquid sugar twin, pepper, salt, bit of hot sauce or cayenne to taste, dijon mustard. I just keep adding stuff till i get the right taste! depends on my mood but sometimes i take out the mustard and add s/f maple syrup too.

What Isabeau and Sadie said. The PC stuff is really good. Like you, a bottle of each lasts me a really, really long time and I don't think it's much more expensive than the regular stuff.
