  • Charlie Horses

I'm on my 6th week of Atkins and for the past 2 weeks I've been getting Charlie Horses about 3 times a week in the middle of the night. We all know how painful these are.. what do you think is causing this. My mom thinks it's from lack of certain vitamins. What do you think?

    Re: Charlie Horses

That's usually the cause...Are you taking your multivitamin supplements? And are you eating a variety of vegetables?

Muscle cramps can also be due to "over-use". So if you work-out and fatigue your muscles, you might experience cramping.

If you are taking multivitamins, eating a variety of vegetables and not over-doing your work-outs, and you are having these muscle cramps, see a physician.

Calcium is related to proper muscle function...so make sure you're taking multivitamns, as not2late said.

Also...if you drink have enough water, that could cause muscle pain/problems as well...so be sure to drink up!

I started taking a calcium supplement and it didn't help. I switched to a magnesium and calcium supplement and they stopped.

        Give it a try.

Not enough magnesium and potassium from what I learned the first time around. Usually whenever I get them, I take a potassium supplement and they disappear.

Magneium and calcium cured them for both me and my partner, and his were dire, you could actually SEE the muscles cramping! He has his 2 at night, I have mine in the morning, but they work!

GNC has a calcium/magnesium/potassium supplement that I take. Helped me with the leg cramps!
