  • I CHEATED-- DO i go back to induction???

I had a HORRIBLE, 2-day cheat. It was for emotional eating. My husband was threatening to leave me (all in front of my 3 year old and infant). He packed his stuff and everything (he's still here now though and we've made up). Well anyways that led to a 2 DAY eating binge. I mean EVERYTHING. I probably consumed 5000 calories each day of carb food. So now here I am back on the wagon. BUT where do I go? Do I contine with owl (I was on the dairy rung) or do I do a clean 2 week induction? I am soooo mad at myself. I can't believe I let myself eat like that again. I also gained 8 LBS BACK! Is that possible? I was 146 on Saturday and now today I am 154! ARGHHHHHHHH. Okay just wonderin what i should do. TIA

It takes 3500 calories above what you normally need in order to gain 1 pound of fat. So, unless you ate 28,000 calories over the weekend, you can more or less chalk those pounds to water retention.

So what do you do now?

    1. Are you still in ketosis, either by those sticks or by the physical signs of ketosis?
-If not, then you can drop back to Induction level carbs for 2-3 days (the time it takes for your body to use up any glycogen you stored), then pick up where you left off in OWL.
-If you are in ketosis, then you can either pick up where you left off or drop by 5 net carbs for a few days, then pick where you left off in OWL.

    2. All of us encounter something stressful in our lives, whether it is something big (like what you went through) or something small (like the creep you cut you off on the parkway), what you have to do is find other ways of coping with this stress instead of eating. Many of us eat emotionally or eat for comfort: it's a very bad habit and it needs to be broken.

So try to find ways to cope. You could try working off that emotional energy by taking a walk or punching a punching bag. I had a friend who used to go outside and start digging a new flower bed in the garden whenever she and her husband had fights. (By the way, she had a beautiful garden!) If physical activity is too, well, physical, try doing something else, like talking to a friend or a relative OR come here and post your troubles in the Women's Forum.

If you've done this and it still doesn't work for that particular stress and you're about to hop in your car and buy a 5 gallon bucket of ice cream. Sit down. Take a big breath. And spend 5 minutes writing out what you are feeling and what will make you feel better in the long run.
