Re: I am getting ready to start Owl
Re-read the OWL Chapter in DANDR and read through the stickies in this forum.
Also, be sure you are only adding 5 net carbs at a time. And don't add too many things at one time.
You'll like OWL---give you 10000000000000000000000000000000000000 times more food freedom than Induction does.

Re: I am getting ready to start Owl
Don't be afraid of moving to OWL. Too many people hang around Induction and become carb-phobic, and delay entering the OWL and Pre-Maintenance Phases OR they hang around Induction and perform wacky food experiments on themselves like eating high carb one day a week. They don't realize that causing rapid shifts in their blood sugar isn't good from them in a diet sense or in a general health sense and they don't realize that OWL and Pre-Maintenance are the training ground for maintaining that goal weight they've worked so hard to achieve.
There are also some people who hang around Induction but eat more protein---they don't realize that excessive protein is converted to glucose and if they don't use it, it is stored as fat. Moreover they don't realize that by eating more protein they've essentially moved to OWL level carbs because they glucose they are producing from protein metabolism acts like carbs from veggies, fruits and grains. And they really don't realize that for about every 10 grams of extra protein they are eating , they are producing about 6 grams of glucose. So if they eat 1 net carb of veg and 100 grams of extra protein for 1 meal, their body "sees" about 59.8 grams of glucose for that one meal! So either have to exercise like mad or they hit a stall.
Just keep in mind that OWL and Pre-Maintenance are the training ground for Maintenance. It's heart-breaking to see folks who lost weight and return a year later because they didn't learn how to eat to maintain their goal weight while they had their chance.~Megs~

Re: I am getting ready to start Owl
Hooray for you, Greirsonj - I'm delighted for you on your move to OWL. It is awesome. I'm still on veggies, currently looking at a move to dairy in the near future, and I cannot believe the satisfaction it has given me with my meals. With vegetables. Who knew?
My only advice is to take your time. And don't fear the switch. I was losing much less consistently before I made the move to Rung1. Now, I'm regularly seeing 3-4 lbs. loss every weigh-in like clockwork (I do mine every 2 weeks). None of the veggies seem to trigger any major reactions, stalls or cravings, so as George Jefferson would say... "We're movin' on up..."
Best of luck to you. Keep up the terrific progress. You look absolutely fantastic.

Re: I am getting ready to start Owl
Don't be afraid of OWL... it'll give you such piece of mind, you'll never want to go back to induction. Well that's how I feel at least... I'm such a veggie queen.
My meals really seem normal to other people too... most don't even know I'm "dieting." They attribute my recent weight loss to the exercise. No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.

Vigilance, not perfection.
