  • Pumpkin and Sugar

Hey everyone, I am on my first day of the OWL Phase and I would like to add Pumpkin to get my extra 5 Net Carbs but when I was reading the label it contains 4 sugars per serving. Can I still have it even though it contains sugar?

    Thanks,
    Kim

    Re: Pumpkin and Sugar

All fruits and vegetables contain natural sugars. Be sure to read the ingredients to all products, like you did when you were on Induction, and check for "sugar" or one of the sugar aliases in the ingredients list.

IF the product does not list sugar as an ingredient, then there was no sugar added and the sugar listed on the nutritional info is naturally occurring and is okay.

Since you probably didn't have pumpkin during Induction, you will need to monitor how that pumpkin has effected your weight loss or your blodd sugar. Therefore, only add it once every other day. On the non-pumpkin days, you can eat 5 net carbs of a veggie you have been eating during Induction, in addition to your minimum daily veggie intake.

Alrighty thanks, I didn't want to eat it if it was going to cause any problems. Now in the book it says I can have 1 cup of Pumpkin as long as I haven't exceeded my salad veggies but I've heard I'm only allowed half a cup, so how much should I eat every other day?

        You're confusing Induction and OWL.

During Induction, you ate 3 cups of veg everyday. You either ate 3 cups of the "salad list" vegetables or you ate 2 cups of the "salad list" vegetables and 1 cup of the "other vegetables list" vegetables. You still eat that amount of veggies during OWL.

But during OWL, you add 5 net carbs of vegetables from either Induction list. Each veggie has it's own carb count, so 5 net carbs of pumpkin is about 1/2 cup but 5 net carbs of lettuce is about 15 cups. Therefore your total vegetable intake during OWL is the 3 cup amount of Induction veggies PLUS 5 net carbs of them.
