  • Dairy question???

    Hi, I am currently on the dairy rung and bought some cottage cheese and yogurt the other day. The first day I ate the yogurt and yesterday I ate the cottage cheese, should I try something else or keep switching the two? I know I'm allowed to have heavy cream so if I went to Dunkin Donuts and got an iced coffee (Decaf of course) would that count for my 5 carbs of dairy? Also I was reading in the Adkin's book and it says a half cup of cream equals 5 carbs, is this right because I hear from other people I'm only allowed a couple of tablespoons? What other kind of dairy products can I try to get in my 5 carbs?

    I wouldn't alternate new foods because if you don't lose weight this week you won't know if it was the yogurt or the cottage cheese or both, would you? In fact, you create more work because you'll have to go back and try them out individually and see what did it to you.

    Regarding heavy cream, you need to read the label. Heavy cream generally runs between 0.4 to 0.9 net carbs per tablespoon. So if you play it safe and count 1 tablespoon of heavy cream as 1 net carb, 5 tablespoons would be 5 net carbs. Also remember from your Induction Acceptable Foods list, heavy cream is one of those "special category foods" that are known to stall or slow weight loss in some people. So if you are using it in higher amounts, you need to add that amount in slowly.

    As for other dairy products...fresh cheeses like ricotta, cottage cheese, fresh mozzarella and milk products like yogurt or kefir.

      Alrighty thankyou, I think I did mess this rung up because I've been alternating and now I know why I've stayed at the same weight for a week now. I just can't seem to get it right

        What you do is drop the foods you added for a couple of days. See what happens with your weights and measurements. Then add one of the foods every other day next week. See what happens. If you lose, add the other food by itself and see what happens.
