  • can i switch from 1 rung to the other...

    i didnt want to do the 1st rung of veggies since i dont eat most of them . i have jumped to the second rung which is dairy. i am having 1 glass of hoods low carb chocolate milk. Thats my favorite.

    my weight hasnt dropped at all but i am excercising everyday for 1/2 hr and i am drinking my water. will i see some weight dropping ... or will the milk stall it since i am in my third week only.

    we can skip rungs if we chose not to include those foods as a part of our diet but we really need the micro nutrients in the veggies. non of us started out a big veggie eaters witht he exception of a few of us.

    you are at the point on any weight loss plan where folk think the plan stops working and quit. i call it the post induction hesitation in scale weight loss. if you check your inches you will see you are still shedding fat. the body for very complicated biochem reasons needs to hold shape so it stuffs the fatty tissues with fluids as the fat is being removed. water is denser than fat so it weighs the same but takes up less body space and you get a bit of shrinkage. when thise plumped water execeeds your body's biochem tolerance for the molalirty and molarilty interference it is causing the body will generate chemicals to shed the water too and poof over night your scales move out ot proportion to anything you ate or did the daybefore. we call it a visit from Whooshie faiy as you peeed off the water pounds. then this cycle starts again fat burned off fluid plumped into tissues inches lost not pounds. shed the water scalews move

    be poatient with your Atkins a true stall is 4 weeks no pounds nor inches lost.

      thanks so much for that info... i just took my weight and i have gained 2 pounds. i have gone to where i started from . i had lost 2 pounds which made it 132 and now have gained 2 pounds which is back to 134.

      But yes my inches havent shot up, so thats keeping me motivated . but i dont understand how did i gain ? is it because of the milk and this 2 pounds is kind of worrying me !!!

        fluids have weight you know water weighs about a pound a pint. we can hold fluid in our tissues in our bladder and in our bowels.

          it is best to weigh on an empty bkladder and stomach at the same time with the same clothing

            In addition to what 2Big said......

            If you are in this mini-stall, you might not want to add anything new to your menu because you won't know if it is the food or just part of the stall.

            Also one of the rules of OWL is
            If new foods provke weight gain or return of physicial symptoms lost doing Induction, or increased appetitie or cravings, stop them immediately.
            So at this point you have 2 choices:

            1. Drop the milk from you menu and see what happens to your weight loss.

            2. Continue drinking the milk and hope you're just in the post-Induction stall 2Big mentioned.

              yep will have to weigh myself and then see what happens. i think my weight will be the same. could it be the muscle weight due to excercising..

                i weigh the same even on an empty stomach .. i am back on 134 ... but my inches have not gone up . will weigh by end of this week again . i am still having milk - low carb .. will see if i gain more weight !!!

                  I sort of jumped right into those OWL rungs. After being on extended induction for 2 weeks and not losing (I think at this point my body probably went into starvation mode) I added one extra vegetable serving, one fruit serving a day (berries), and one dairy serving and I've been losing steadily for the past 3 days. I probably have about 35 carbs per day and am still in moderate ketosis. I know it's not the norm and is supposed to be done gradually, but it doesn't seem to stall me at all.

                    well i am having my milk regularly and i dont think i have gained anything so you can have low carb milk....

                      saab, OWL and Pre-Maintenance (and Maintenance for that matter) are a very "Your Mileage May Vary" type thing. Some foods might have effects on some people, but don't affect others. For example, there are folks here who can eat cantaloupe without any problems at all. I cannot. On the other hand, some folks here can't eat watermelon because it causes cravings etc., while I don't have that problem with cantaloupe.

                      That's why I get very concerned whenever people ask specific food questions and get the response "Oh I eat that all the time and nothing ever happens to me. So I wouldn't pay much attention to what anyone else says." Every one of us have very individual bodies that respond to foods in individual ways.

                      Be careful and mindful of the foods you choose to include on your Atkins. Just because Soandso can eat 15 eggs or regular whole wheat bread and still lose, doesn't necessarily mean you will too.

                        yep non of the foods on the OWL rung bothered me but induction foods like Splenda and celery effected me. I have seen other post about horrific nuts issues with their weight loss and others breeze right through it. cheese stalls some others it helps so listen to your body and see what your body can tolerate as part of your Atkins WOE.
