  • Vidalia Onion

Hey everyone! I bought a Vidalia Onion today to add to my guacamole and on the 5-5 thread it doesn't list how many cups raw I can have. Does anyone know offhand?

Kimberly, here is what fitday says for 1/2 cup raw onion. Looks like 5.5 carbs for 1/2 cup.

I love vidalia onions but really have to watch my use of any onions as I tend to go overboard if I don't.

I LOVE onions, I hadn't tried them in my guacamole yet and it tastes great. I actually made cheeseburgers topped with guac tonight and it rocks.

If you have pics you want to put on here you can go to WWW.PHOTOBUCKET.COM and upload them there then take the image code they give you copy it then come back here, go to User CP then on the left it says Edit Signature and you paste the code there. Your pics will come up in every posting.

Vidalias is mostly what I buy...they are soooo good. I don't count them any differently than any other onion...I just go by the fitday for raw mature onions.

You don't need to count them differently than any other onion. The reason why they are "sweeter" than regular white or yellow onions is because they don't contain as many sulfur-compounds. It's the sulfur compounds that make the onions taste 'sharp' (and make you cry too).

They are relatively high in sugars/carbs, just like tomatoes.

                    Re: Vidalia Onion

I was trying to enter it in to Fitday but nothing was coming up so I wasn't sure I could add it as a regular onion or not. Now I don't have to search for 20 minutes!

I <3 Vidalia onions. I always wait for their season. The produce guy at the grocery store yesterday was trying to convince me that Walla Walla's are just as good...I know better...

they are too watery ...usually last two seconds before going rotton and are tasteless ...OMG someone is going to key my car..for saying this... I am sure of it

I will take a vidalia or maui onion over a Walla Walla any day

there was a very good nicely sweet onion that I tried in Texas and I can not remember the name?
