I was checking out some recipes on here and I'd like to try making some stuffed chicken breasts but the recipe calls for Salsa. How much can I use and is there a certain brand I should buy?

Re: Salsa
I'd like a recipe for that too. Every bottle of salsa I found in the store had sugar in it so I didn't get any.
I'll try to see if I can find us a recipe on Linda's.~Kat

Re: Salsa
Many of the prepared salsas have added sugars---usually in the form of tomato juice. They also taste kind of dull, because they tend to be cooked. Making your own is simple because tomato salsa is just chopped tomatoes, onions, peppers, salt, cilantro (if you like it) and lemon or lime juice. You can vary the amounts of vegetables to suit your taste.~Megs~

Re: Salsa
Definitely make your own.
Tomato
onion (I use vidalia)
jalapeno (I take out the seeds, if you like it HOT, leave them in)
fresh cilantro
lemon juice
salt and pepper
I use a black and decker handy chopper for the cilantro and jalapeno, but you can use a full size food processor too. I hand chop the tomato and onion.~Joy

Re: Salsa
Homemade salsa won't be as watery and the veggies will be more distinct, so don't expect that soupy-stewy type jar salsa. You can make it with any degree of heat that you want.
If you want it "drier", for stuffing into something, remove the seeds from the tomatoes before you chop.
In addition to cilantro, I like about 1/8 teaspoon of ground cumin in it too. The small amount of cumin isn't overpowering so you won't say "wow, cumin!" when you eat it, but it gives it alittle something extra.
Oh also, my co-worker has a "dry gazpacho" recipe that's follows the basic salsa recipe, but includes chopped peeled cucumber and minced garlic. He brought it to our office potluck last week and served it like a salad. I imagine it would be very good if it were very cold and used as a side for grilled chicken.~Megs~

Re: Salsa
What I do is get the veggies, chop them and measure them and mix them together. Measure the mixture.Originally posted by Kimberly_PHow much of each should I add? I don't want to go overboard with the carbs!
Then I go to fitday.com and enter the values. Then I figure out how many servings I can get out of the entire batch I made. No possible way to "over-do" the carbs if you know exactly what you put in and how much of it.
