    Hey,

I've been on OWL rung 1 for a while now and I'm moving to rung 2 cuz I"m getting bored with the food. I wanna move on through the rungs every week or two so I'm on maintenance by the time I hit septmember and school. However, I have been losing weight nicely at the 25-30 carb range so I wanna stay there. It's not important for me to find my ACE cuz I know it'll change once school starts and I exercise a lot less (I do an 1-2 hour daily). Anyway, my question was could I add different foods from rungs without changing my net carbs? I will obviously be eating my vegetables and I'm a vegetarian but I'll be subbing some extra like cheese, olive oil, one less veggie burger for 5g of carbs for that rung. Anyone know if this is okay?

    thanks

Actually, why don't you move up and find your CCLL before you return to school? That way you'll know the maximum amount of carbs your body can have and still lose weight. It will reduce eating stress during school, imo, because you'll know if you eat 40 net carbs you're still within your CCLL and you won't have to worry about gaining weight. Once you know your CCLL, you can still eat below or close to it. But you'll always have it as a reference of how far you can go.

You don't want to increase your fat intake during OWL. That's a common mistake people do. Your fat intake should stay the same or slightly lower than your Induction fat intake. Fat has about twice the number of calories per gram than carb or protein. So if you substitute 5 net carbs of a fruit or legume with a high fat food like cheese or oil, you'll be eating a higher calorie diet. So you really would need to exercise to use those extra calories.

WEll, the thing is I exercise vigorously right now so I know my ACE will be higher than what it will be when i exercise a lot less, hence ACE will change either way.

SEcond, I don't plan to add fatty foods. I said I would take out fatty foods like cheese and oil as I add 5g of that rung. Is this okay?

Oh then I misunderstood when you wrote "I'm a vegetarian but I'll be subbing some extra like cheese, olive oil, one less veggie burger for 5g of carbs for that rung." Sorry.

Anyway, according to the charts in the book, "regular" exercisers might have CCLLs of 60-90. Dr. Atkins defined "regular" exerciser as "someone who does vigourous exercise 5 days a week for at least 45 minutes." If you aren't a "regular" exerciser then you'll have to look up your CCLL ranges based upon your degree of metabolic resistance to estimate your CCLL ranges. So if your 14 Day Induction results indicated you had high metabolic resistance, then your CCLL ranges will be along those lines.

So look at the metabolic resistance charts and see what your estimated CCLL is. If your estimate is above 30, then there really isn't a reason to not move up and see what it really is. Again, this will give you peace of mind when you are in school and have to make decisions about your meals.

          Re: rungs

since you don't want your rate of loss to slow you can do modified OWL we have that in a stickie too. just sub 5 net carbs of the new rungs for the some aready gotten foods as you go up the rung. just be adviced many folk thought they would get to goal faster doing this but then had major issues when they decided they wanted more then just the 30 odd carbs and jumped to a higher carb number including all those foods. Gradually increasing the carb totals allows your body to slowly adjust to the increase in blood sugar and create enough insulin to process it effectively.

Weight loss doesn't slow that much moving up 5 net carbs rung each time.
