Hi all...Haven't been here in a while (which might explain the prob). Long story as short aws possible. Gained 60 pounds about 10 years ago, lost 5 gained 20, lost 20 gained 30, you know the story, right? I had never been heavy before, but it was in the cards, age, genetics, and oh eating habits, lol.
Well after trying every diet, (being anti Atkins big time), a year ago my brother in law talked me into just trying it. I should also mention one thing I hated more then dieting was excersize! I started atkins with no excersize, and to my surprise dropped 30 pounds in just over a month, I stalled a bit...my husband had been wanting to join a club/gym...I had been fighting him on this as I knew my membership would be a waste of money...well I go five days a week (even got a trainer), in about 6ish months I lost the full 60, and besides a bit of flabby skin actually found some muscle...long story has gotten long, sorry.

I decided to take off an additional 5 pounds (which I did), which was the goal I hadn;t faced in the begining because I never thought I would even loose 50 (when I began Atkinsat I knew I was a lost cause, I was use to thinking I had NO self control).

Atkins (and my trainer) changed my life. Loosing the weight changed my life in ways I had never imagined! Gave me discipline, strength, a sense of pride/self.

Now to my issue, I am still a carb addict in my head! If it wasn't for working out (still not liking it, but I go cause I like what it does) I prob would have gained it all back in the past 2 months. I gain 5 loose 5 etc...

Guess I'm looking for support to keep going, I feel like I have hit a wall, and am seeing old patterns creeping back up.

    Thanks for letting me blab.

    Advice anyone?

    Thanks

First off, wow, congrats on the life style change! Second, I feel for you, I know how it is to loose 10, gain 20 etc etc. Until now that is!!

See, you know how to do this. You've been successful at it too. Just step back, look at your self, and remember how you used to be, and how unhappy you were with yourself.

Go home today and just do a sweep of the kitchen again. Get rid of those 'tempting things' and replace them with of 'Atkins Friendly' things.

It's so terrible, we know how to make this work, but we give in to temptation. Granted, I've only been doing this for a little over 3 months, but I will never go back to the way I was. I want to get to 195 pounds. Then re-access my situation, and go down even further.

You can do it!! Good Luck!!

    Keep us posted!!

      hi

It sounds like you have done the right thing in coming back to ADBB!

Well done on becoming a regular exerciser

Where on the OWL ladder are you now?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

I TOO AM A CARB ADDICT DEEP DOWN!!!! That is why I am Atkins for Life...Look at me last time I gusess I thought I was "cured" and that I could eat whatever in any portions I choose and then before I knew it the carb moster had firmly taken control of my life and my body...I regained I felt awful and felt like I could not get restarted...It took a long time for me to sucessfully make it to 3 days of eating right.

So basically I guess I am saying that I am a carb addict...like being diabetic I guess...as long as I take care of myself and eat right and manage my food i feel great and its like I am "cured" but if I stop doing the things that made me feel better...namely Atkins and exercising/moving my body some then I will gain begin to feel the effects of my "carb addiction"

I am not sad that I am not "cured", deep down there is and probabbly always will be a switch that gets flipped when I start eating crap and then I'm not really in control anymore.

For me realizing that maybe some people can shove McDonalds burgers, fries and shakes in their mouth and then be fine but I can't, I mean its OK.

This time I did all the rungs...I can eat so many great things I just need to remember that Atkins got me here and That ATKINS will keep me here

Really I'm still the same fat girl in a skinny body

And I don't want to forget that...all the things that lead me astray last time will lead me to the same place agin

          Congrats on your loss.

Where in the On-Going Weight Loss Phase are you? See, when you moved out of Induction Phase and into OWL, you began adding carbs back to your diet so any carb addictions to the various foods you would have found and developed strategies to deal with those carb cravings/addictions.

Too many people make the horrible mistake of staying on Induction until goal and when they reach goal, they are absolutely clueless about how their bodies react to non-Induction carbs and they will most likely regain all their weight again.

So which OWL foods are you finding to be troublesome?

reread your DANDR and check those premaintnenance chapters where Dr Atkins says if the food or food group was an issue for you before you did Atkins don't add it back. he has a great quote in his other book about how he can now resist all but one thing----
and that one thing being temptation!

When we accept that we as carboholic are no better then alcoholics or drug addicts (cause our drug of choice is carbs) and must constanly face and control that addiction daily cause unlike a drug addict or alcoholic who has been through rehab they never need to consume the stuff they were addicted to in order to live. So we carefully let the caged tiger our every day and very carefully walk it and then return it to the cage with our bodies unharmed when we don't listen to or be intimidated by its power over us.

Can you do it? yep if whatever the pleasure you get from that momentary comsumption of the high carb foods costs you more then you are wiling to pay with your health and size. Keep a list of all the new smaller clothes you had to buy and how much it all cost so you will know how much money you are going to have to spend on new fat clothes cause you gave away all of those clothes so you couldn't possible gain back your weight easily. Then call your insurance company and ask how much more your policy will be if you get fat again. that should help with the actual financial costs then check out some website about diabetes, joint, and heart conditons obese folk have and that should help you see the physical cost to your health. then knowing all that see if you really want those carbs.

exercise raises our CCLM greatly but when you get injured you lose that protection so you might want to under use your exercise increase and have slightly more protein and fat when you arrive at goal.

            Happy low carbing.
