  • Lost 27 lbs in 6 wks!

I am really excited about losing so much so fast, but I fear it is probably not good to lose it that fast. I feel fine, and it means that I only have 25 lbs to go before I am at my goal weight. I am consistently eating about 1600 cal with about 45 carbs. My percentages tend to be about 60% fat, 30 % protein and 10% carbs. I exercise regularly (kayaking). My job is not sitting at a desk all the time. My question is... should I move to eating more carbs to help slow the weight loss, or is 2.5 pounds per week ok to lose until I am done? I don't feel deprived in any way, and eat a lot of foods that I like. I would like to add back in an apple a day, but I am afraid that it would stop my weight loss. I have stopped at OWL - rung 5. Just because I don't drink, so have not moved on to rung 7. Should I move on?
    Thanks,
    Cathy

Yes, I did not weigh but every two weeks. Every other week, I was down by 5-10lbs. And have continued to go down almost that much every two weeks. I use the ketostix each evening just to see if I am still in ketosis, and I am never very purple, most times in the very first "trace" amount or the next "moderate" one.

Have you found your CCLL yet? If you haven't, it would be a good idea to do so. You can skip any rungs you don't wish to do. So if you don't drink alcohol, you move onto the next rung.

OWL is a great food experiment, so I would say, go ahead and add 5 net carbs of apple and see what happens. IF the apple addition slows or stops your weight loss, remove it from your diet and continue trying out new foods. This is the phase where you learn about your body and the types of foods that are good for it.

As for losing too quickly, Dr. Atkins wrote that he did not recommend losing more than 1 pound per day.
