Ive been doing fairly well. Im at 45 pounds gone. I feel awesome, im eating fabulously. workingout as much as I can when its been so ungodly hot.

My problem... hunger in the mornings. I was doing well for a long time, getting hungry right before lunch or not hungry at all. The past week... Ive started getting hungry (real hunger, not mental hunger) from 930-1030. Long before lunch. At first I thought it was because i had changed my breakfast from greek yougurt with berries to one of the pumpkin concoctions in the recipes forum. Today I went back to yogurt with berries, its 945 and Im ready to eat my arm. Not normal. Im wondering if i need to start eating more for breakfast or what. I had this morning a half cup of greek yogurt and about 20 blackberries which is pretty close to what I always have. Ive been having mynormal dinners so its not like Im not satisfied from the prior day. I havent ramped up my workouts (its too hot to do that) so theres not any known extra exertion. I just am at a loss for whats going on. No new foods added that are causing cravings. Im sleeping well and feel good and have enough energy for the day, I can tell when my blood sugaris waning so I usually have something small to keep me on an even keel

And dont worry, Im feeding my hunger this morning with an ounce of cheese and some cherry tomatoes and another glug of water.

Anyone have any insight from teh outside as to whats going on? Ive looked at it from every angle I can view and am stumped. Thanks!

Nothing wrong with a mid-morning snack, but are you taking supplements? If no you may experience the hunger due to a deficiency your body needs to satisfy

Yep I do take supplements and have from the beginning-
      Fish oil
      flax seed oil
      vit e
      B complex
calcium (no potassium as it gives me leg cramps)
      Vit C

I do not take a multivitamin..... While I can find one without Iron, I cant find one without VItA AND Iron. Im currently taking a medicine that cannot have extra A taken with it so I go without a multivitamin.

I had a full physical (for work) a few weeks ago and had full labs done along with ekg and lung films. My bloodwork is fabulous, Good cholesterol is high, bad cholesterol is low (I dont have the exact numbers in front of me), all the cell counts are well within normal. Imjust not accustomed to a midmorning hunger by any stretch!

With not much to go on but quickly metabolised dairy and fruit, you may need more frequent feeding. If you don't want a mid-morning snack, adding to breakfast may be in order, or just drink more water in the morning and see if that helps.

Thanks you two!! I will add a bit of protein in and see if that doesnt get me out of this "feed me" mode in the midmornings. Like I said thats been my standard breakfast for awhile now so I was at a loss on the reason for a sudden hunger.

Yeah, try a little something more protein wise for breakfast. That's what I did, I added like another egg, or leftover portion of meat from the day before.

Give it a try and see if that helps!!

Don't you just love this board???

                  Re: Hunger

Yeah, it's okay for snacks to be high fat because the snack is there to keep your hunger at bay between meals, but meals need to be a combo of protein, fat and carb.

The other thing about hunger is something I learned about myself. When I first found my CCLL it was 35. Since I lose slowly, I thought I would be able to cruise at 35 until I moved onto Pre-Maintenance. However, as I lost weight, I became more active. As a result, it came to the point where I was hungry all the time and I was also tired all the time. And because I was hungry all the time, I inadvertently began eating more than I should have. So I stopped losing weight because I was over-eating my Atkins.

After alot of experimenting, I re-read the sentence in the book where Dr. Atkins said that people who exercise "vigorously" (45 minutes at least 5 times a week) can have a higher CCLL. So, I added 5 additional net carbs to my menu and the tiredness and hunger was gone. Moreover, I began losing weight again.

About 5 months ago, I hit the same tired-hungry all the time thing. This time I ended up adding a total of 10 net carbs. So my current CCLL is 50.

I really don't know why this happens, but it seems the energy demands of my activity level and my smaller self might have increased my metabolism and so I need those extra carbs. I think this is also why the folks who do extended Induction and who don't have a high metabolic resistance to weight loss, eventually hit a stall that is only resolved by moving into OWL.
