Re: What Rung of OWL are You on?

Icecream has always been an addiction to me. When I would scoop it out I would still be eating out of the container while putting it away. I try not to keep any in the house and if I have some I make sure it is a cone or a cup where when its gone its gone.

Re: What Rung of OWL are You on?

There were a few of the low-carb varieties (ice cream) that did create cravings and I found one that didn't and I love it! It is the Breyer's Carb Smart -- Chocolate, Vanilla and Rocky Road. When we eat a dessert, I get my 1/2 cup and I am fine. Recently, I've been rolling it over my tongue and thought that it was satisfying and I could really stop after a few bites, but I eat the 1/2 cup anyway since it is not that much. Funny how eating this way can change those parts of you. (I too was one of those people who could eat ice cream for breakfast!!)

Have all the ice creams you tried created cravings? Have you tried the Breyer's?

Just curious...I know different things affect different folks.

        Great question! Answer: YES!!!!

When I began I could easily eat 2-3 chicken drumsticks. Now, 1 drumstick is all I need.

It took me a while for me to accept that I was eating way too quickly and I needed to eat large amounts in order to taste the food. So now, I take smaller bites, savor the food and I'm completely satisfied with my meals.

Kind of interesting aside...I read alot of cookbooks (my weakness!) And I read a cookbook by the Duchess of Devonshire. In it she wrote that she had an uncle who was healthfood nut (this was in the 1920s). Anyhow, he eat anything, provide it was made with high quality ingredients. So no ground meat or sausages from the butchers because he didn't know what kind or the quality of meat used. However, if he made them himself or supervised how they were made, he would eat them. Anyhow, the Duchess said his motto was "very little of very good".

In a way, it's true. Because if you eat "very good" (good quality food), you really do become satisfied and don't need to eat an entire warehouse!

I know one thing...I am sure enjoying going up the rungs of OWL. It is not only fun, but I'm learning so much about portion control and being satisfied with my foods. It is such a nice feeling!!

            You're doing great, Kat

I jumped up to legumes this weekend and struck up a new (old) eating habit of only eating 1/2 of what's on my plate for portion control. Well, so far...so good.

              Lisa,

That sounds great!! How long do you usually stay on each rung? What has been your favorite rung so far?

For me...nuts are nice, but my fav so far is dairy! Yummy! There are so many things that you can have with dairy that you never feel deprived.

Well, I just wanted to update and say that I decided to move up to the berries rung. We are going to have a strawberry treat tonight for our anniversary weekend.
