  • What Did You Learn on the Dairy Rung?

I've learned so far that there are two brands of low-carb ice cream that I cannot eat. They cause bloating, weight gain or cravings.

Then there are two things that I found out that don't affect me. They are: Calorie Countdown Milk by Hood and Breyer's Carb Smart Ice Cream.

I still have my homemade yogurt to try.

    What about you?

I learned don't add back 5 net carb grams of cheese LOL.

I learned cottage cheese caused me to have the I wants if eatten alone but cooked in something else were okay

I learned I can love lasagna without noodles

they didn't have any of the low carb yogurts or milks out when I was a rung 2er but later I learned you can make great yogurt from the countdown milk just don't use the chocolate as it doesn't do right.

I learned that I *LOVE* the Carb Count Down Chocolate Milk!

That was the one thing that I missed the most in the mornings, was my milk.

I learned that ice cream belongs on rung 13, all by itself! LOL

I don't consider any of it safe for me, even well past dairy rung. Cheese, on the other hand, gives me no trouble except for the salt content causing water bloat.

Re: What Did You Learn on the Dairy Rung?

Another thing that I've learned about dairy in the past few weeks is that I'm satisfied with a 1/2 cup of the Carb Smart ice cream. Prior to Atkins I could eat a good bowl of ice cream and deep down still want more. This amazes me that I can eat a fraction of what I was before and feel content. Yeah!!

Re: What Did You Learn on the Dairy Rung?

Hi there - I'm going to move up to the Dairy Rung next week and want to do my grocery shopping this weekend. I'm going to add some yogurt 3 days next week and that's it - but my husband would LOVE some milk. Our 1% milk in Denmark has 3.9 carbs for 100 grams. So it is 'technically' in the range...

What I'm wondering is... everyone talks about this low carb milk product (carb countdown or something) but we can't get anything like that here. Can you 'make' low carb milk or is that crazy? Hubby LOVES milk and I'd like it in a few things as well if it was ok (sometimes cream is a bit OTT).

                Any suggestions?

                Thanks.

Re: What Did You Learn on the Dairy Rung?

I learned that low carb yogurt and even too much cheese stalls me!

I have mostly avoided dairy since this discovery. I know I am not lactose intolerant, but these things were stalling me, as I continued with weight loss once I removed them. I have never really like milk much so skipping this rung seems to work ok for me.

I do fine with berries and melon and wine/low carb beer however.

I wonder if you buy whole milk and cut it in half with water? I'm not sure.

I wonder if we have any other Atkineers in your part of the world that could give you some tips. You may want to try a post naming it with your country and then your question. Or post to see if there are any others on board -- I think there is an International section of the board also. Try clicking here: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...splay.php?f=42

Discoverd Farmers cheese, it was next to the cream cheese, wasn't looking for it but it has 0 carbs. It has a texture similiar to ricotta but I like the taste of farmers better. I mix it with flax seed meal and some sugar free chocolate syrup and it taste like cookie dough.
I used to be an ice cream freak but have not had any cravings for it so I'm not going to bring it into the house. One reason I got off of Atkins first time is I had too many low carb bars and other foods and one day said to self maybe the regular will be o.k. this time, which turned into a next time and it was all over.
