  • Hello Again......

    Hey Everybody,

Sorry for the hiatus. Business calls and life is as usual hectic. But the good thing is.....it's still a sugar free hectic!! It's going to take me a few days to get caught up on 3 - 4 weeks of postings...yikes!!

Gigging schedule is doing well. Still losing weight. About a pound a week. I'm doing something a bit dangerous, with my work load piling up, I'm not using fitday as loyal as I should. I still mark weight loss, and activities, and journal, but not faithfully entering every item I eat. (Has anyone else done this???)

I know what to eat, and how much, and what not to eat. Still afraid to add beans (current level) haven't had the courage to give them a try again. I've been so happy with my progress, I don't want to hex it haha! Still drinking water like a mad man too! As usual, need to kick up the exercise, and I'd probably be losing more. Inches going away too.....I love having extra length on the end of my belt, watching the extra length grow is fun!! The other night my wife said, is that you're new belt!!! Yikes, you need another one. I love her so much!!!

I hope everybody has been good, Validrouge (Joy), Heidi3, TTDriver, Cristylp, Barbde, Elizellen, Angel, KimberlyP etc etc, Kent......hope you are all happy and healthy. Once again, I apologize for not getting back sooner, lots of good things on the horizon musically speaking. Going into the recording studio for my 3rd Original CD. Life is good, low-carb and loving it!!! (ooopss hope that foodtv guy doesn't sue me.....haha)

Anyway, hope to catch up on all your posts this weekend. I've got a couple good recipes I'd like to share, too!

That's about all I have for now..

    Re: Hello Again......

Scooter! We've missed you around here! I don't put everything into fitday either, I know what to eat and I eat it. The only time I go back and enter everything in is when I'm working with new recipes, or if I'm having trouble.

My addition of legumes was 1) Mission brand Tortillas (made with soy flour) YUM! and 2) Kidney/Garbanzo/Black beans on my salad or in soup/chili. I started out and continue regularly to put a tablespoon or two of the beans on my salad.

Excellent, thanks Joy, I've missed you guys too. Black beans, I would think the two tablespoons or so would be kind of filling too on a salad? Hmmm something to think about for sure. So do it just like the fruit, spread them thru out the day and such? I'll have to give it a try and see what happens? Garbanzo beans, can't you make hummus out of those?? Do you?

Mission Brand, I'll have to check those out. See everybody, these people here are so awesome and helpful!! I've missed being able to post and read things!!

I get the Mission brand tortillas at Walmart. Yes, the garbanzos are also known as chick peas, and they do make hummus out of them. I'm not too big of an eater of them except on salad and in Caldo Gallego (Collard Green Soup--a cuban speciality).

I mostly do the kidney beans on my salads. It sure does give a different texture...and I'm all about texture in my food these days.

Oooh How about if you made like fajita omelets....make the omelet very thin so that you could use it as a wrap, make the fajita meat, add some beans, onions, cheese, sour cream and guacamole. Yummy!

Thank you. So how is the not smoking going for you? Hope it hasn't been too hard. I wish my wife would stop smoking too. If you don't mind me asking, how did you do it?

Anyway, congrats on the non-smoking now too !!!

You're just doing the healthy thing all around aren't you Joy!! Go for you!

            Re: Hello Again......

I just made up my mind that if I could quit carbs, that I could quit cigarettes too. I read somewhere that all it takes is 2 weeks to be free of them. Well, I made it through two weeks of induction right? I've given people advice on here all the time that anyone can do something for two weeks right? Sooooo, I made up my mind that I'd quit smoking for two weeks...and I just quit.

I didn't really have bad nicotine withdrawal...but i did have HORRENDOUS sugar cravings. I got knocked out of ketosis, my blood sugar was up and down, and I did get cranky at almost 2 weeks into it because of that....but since i've been so good on Atkins I did pretty good at fighting the urges. They were hard though. I came here and posted about it, and people helped me through it. I honestly think that quitting the cigarettes was easier than quitting the sugar.

I've had some struggles. I put on 8 lbs since quitting and it's just NOT wanting to come back off. I'll drop and then shoot straight back up. I've also picked up new bad habits...like drinking coffee. Today I had decaf. It's got to be because of the unstable blood sugar thats making me crave. I'm not hungry, just cravy. Surprisingly though, it's not for a cigarette. Right now I feel like I could care less if I never smoke again. YAY!

Thank you Lisa! Yes....you're both right, it may just be an omeletish weekend!! Haha! Great info. I'm so proud of you Joy. You're overcoming two huge obstacles....great job on your will power. I gotten a bit bored lately with what I'm eating, it's the stupid "time" thing. Just need to take my own advice to the newbies and start being more "creative" with my own main dishes!!

                As always, thank you!!

yep use the beans in moderation until you know if you can handle them and then use them regularly if you like them. they are a great source of protein and fiber

Hey Scooter! Nice to see you!
My older brother was always in a band, (drummer). I used to love being a "groupie" LOL. I know how hectic life can be with that.
I'm not a big fan of beans, so the legume rung is not a problem for me.
But Joy, that is a great idea for a fajita omelette! Breakfast is my specialty! Can't wait to break out that idea this weekend!!!

Good to hear you have been MIA because of pressure of work and not other problems, Scooter!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
