Okay I know this is a long title but how many OWLers and above worked your way up to legally having a food and then when you could finally have it it didn't taste as good as you remembered it tasting and you didn't want it any more.
Everybody thast has read my Atkins sotry knows i moved to OWL so I could have bread cause I just "had" to have it and then never got past 1/2 a loaf of the stuff in all the yrs since Christmas 2002.

Potatoes. I was a potato freak before Atkins. Potato salad (German, American, French all tasted good to me!), mashed potatoes, scalloped potatoes, baked potatoes, boiled potatoes. I never met a potato I didn't like.

When I was moving up the ladder, I decided that I wouldn't venture near a potato because it might trigger the carb monster. As I neared the starchy veg rung, I decided to add 5 net carbs of potatoes once and see what happened. So I bought two fingerling potatoes. I sauteed one and ate it. It didn't taste as good as I remembered. I used the other one in a stew: still didn't taste as yummy as I remembered.

So I can eat them or I can leave them.

So far, strawberries! It's one of the "good" things I've been craving since my very start on Atkins. I purposely climbed the rungs with strawberries in mind and I'm still thrilled I did. They taste wonderful and if anything, better than I remembered.

As for the higher rungs, stuff like potatoes, carrots, etc...I'm still at this point too scared to keep climbing just so I can try them. I think they'd be a trigger for me and I don't love them THAT much!

I'm with Megs on potatoes. I was so excited! And then blech ... sooooo bland!

I might use a little bit of potato in cooking sometime, but I no longer stare longingly at DH's fries.

The foods I used to overeat before I started Atkins are so-so with me now. There is really nothing that I crave except the veggies and salads. Course I've always loved a good salad and now I find myself doctoring it up to make it more tasty.

Fresh fruit. I love it and am sad to say it is a huge trigger for me.

I am with Megs on this one also. I was too scared to try a potato just in case, but I allowed myself a couple of boiled new potatos a couple of months back and they were nice, but they werent anything like I remember them being. I can now taken them or leave them.

But I have vowed only ever to have them boiled. I am not going down the "fried" route or "roasted" way either.

Re: if you were dying to eat it legally did it taste as good to you are you remembered?

This was a very interesting thread. Thanks for creating it!

I was anxious to get to dairy so I could have milk and ice cream. No mad rush, but I did discover that a certain brand of ice cream does make me crave, one made me gain a pound or two and another is great and I am satisfied with my half cup treat. (Ice cream was one of my BIG craving foods so it has happily surprised me that I am satisfied with so little when I used to eat a cereal bowl full before.)

This week I'm on the nuts rung and so far they are okay. Before this program I would have eaten a lot more than I do now, but they just don't have the same pull as they did before.

I am so happy with not craving or being hungry all the time.

I also love experimenting with various foods during OWL to see how they affect me.

                        Bread.
                        Still afraid of it.
But, it doesn't taste the same as I remember - possibly because I used to bake it myself, and it was just the smell of it and the whole process - stuff from the store is not nearly as satisfying, although I do like to smell it when walking past a bakery, sometimes.
