  • moving on to OWL now

Well, moving on to OWL now. I admit I am a bit nervous...never been on OWL before, just extended induction. Earlier, I did try to add some nuts, but returned to extended induction when they stalled me.

I don't know if I can eat as much as 5 net carbs of extra veggies...I like the 3 cups from Induction, with the veggies varied (a few of this, a few of that). Can I instead move to the dairy rung?

No, you really need to add more vegetables. Vegetables are really good for your body because of the vitamins and nutrients and FIBER in them. They really become the mainstay of the low carbohydrate diet.

Try adding 5 net carbs by instead of eating 2 cups of lettuce...eat 2 cups of a higher carbohydrate content vegetable. I have spinach "salads" instead of lettuce "salads" as an example.

      Darn it, I tried

I guess I just need to find more veggies that I like. I've tried 2 stores already that don't have turnips...I want to try the "mashed potatoes" turnips. I should try some other grocery stores this weekend.

There's a sticky thread at the top of the forum that gives suggestions on adding those 5 net carbs.

Good luck on OWL. This is where you learn to eat in the real world and where you customize your Atkins.

One easy way to add 5 net carbs of veggies is to cook them down in a little butter and make them into a sauce to serve over meat or other veggies.

I often gently fry sliced red and yellow peppers in butter till they are soft and use them this way. Sometimes I process the softened peppers and add spices to make a smooth tasty 'gravy'

Or you can make a soup by pureeing cooked veggies (and meat if you want) and adding water and cream or butter.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

nope skipping those 5 net veggies isn't a good idea. you can use the other veggies as your choice and have something like rhubarb or pumpkin. sauces from veggies are great toss a few more in your salad or omelettes. there are lots of ways to creatively eat your veggies in our recipe section.

you can have 2 net carbs of one veggie and 3 of another too you don't have to have the entire 5 from one.

            Happy OWLing.
