  • Did something I shouldn't have...

    I am now on the grains rung and have been doing pretty good, I was shocked that I am still losing even though I'm eating bread because I didn't think I would. I did however mess up big time today, I went to Dunkin' Donuts to grab and iced coffee and with that I also had a whole wheat bagel with cream cheese, the problem is I ate the whole thing... Is this going to mess me up?

    What's your CCLL?

    Right now, it's all dependent on your CCLL. So if that bagel had a carb of 50 and your CCLL is 35....

    Be very cautious about what you eat and the amounts. This is OWL, so you really have to step it up with personal responsibility. This 'eat first, ask questions' later mentality is only going to get you in trouble.

      Of course, it also depends if that was the ONLY CARB intake you had for the day.

        Remember next time you accidentally overinduge carbs that exercise can significantly increase your CCLL, so if you over done your resting CCLL by 10-20 g, a lot of exercise soon afterwards can help you safely cover the excess for that day, by not giving it a chance to go to waist.

          1 bagel has 62 total carbs, 4 fiber carbs. In other words 58 net carbs. So a 5 net carb serving of that would be about 1/10 of the bagel.

          Boonie, I think you're getting it alittle confused about the exercise increasing your carb tolerance. Dr. Atkins said people who were regular exercisers cold have a CCLL in the range of 60-90 grams. A regular exerciser is "someone who does vigorous exercise 5 days for at least 45 minutes", not someone who does vigorous exercise 45 minutes after a carb overdose.

          If you think about it, you'll have to do a whole lot of exercise to use up those excess carbs. For example, if your CCLL is 40 and you eat a 58 net carb bagel, plus the cream cheese (1 net carb), plus 8 oz coffee (1 net carb) with 1 tablespoon cream (1 net carb) and 1 Splenda (1 net carb). The bagel meal is now 62 net carbs. So you went 22 carbs above your CCLL. 1 gram carb gives off 4 calories. So 22 X 4 = 88 calories. So you have to do something to use up those 88 calories. And as cmcole point out, this is just for the bagel meal....it doesn't take into account the rest of the carbs eaten that day.

          It gets more complicated if you factor in the rest of the carbs eaten that day, because let's say you were already at 20 net carbs before the bagel meal. That means you will need to use up the calories from that 20 carbs and the 88 cals from the bagel meal. So you're looking at at least 160 calories to burn off.....
