Just wondering.... since half and half has less calories and fat, should I consider using it to replace heavy cream where it makes sense (like in certain recipes, coffee, etc.)? I know it would increase my carbs, but I'm supposed to be inching those up anyway. I'm curious what you those who've been there already have done/experienced? Thanks!

Adena, I've read other posts on here where the answer is yes. I use half and half with no problem. You can also use the hood calorie countdown as a substitute.~Joy

you can spend your 5 net cards however you want as long as your body tolerates it. in Atkins for life Dr Atkins takes the rungs a step further and has eat regularly for things he gave a lower Atkins glycimic ranking too and eat sparingly for things with higher AGRs half and half is listed in the regular colum but does like cream have an asteric after it and that means keep the portions small.by the book atkinseer

Re: Now that I'm on dairy rung... sub half and half for heavy cream?
I water down heavy cream in some recipes: 3 parts water to 1 part heavy cream makes it more like whole milk.
I have found that for things like decaf coffee, if I use half-and-half, I end up using twice the amount I would use for heavy cream. So the fat and the calories are about equal, but the carbs are slightly different.
So it's really just personal choice and how much heavy cream you use daily.

Thanks for the info. We mostly use heavy cream in recipes... like quiches, casseroles, flaxpancakes, stuff like that. So, at least switching to half and half would help. Or half cream, half carb countdown or something like that.
Thanks again!

For things like quiches and casseroles I just use the heavy cream- water mix. It allows me to add fat to these dishes in the form of yummy cheese!!!!!Originally posted by AdenaThanks for the info.
