  • My 12 weeks on Atkins

    Just a quick one, as time is marching on (amazingly fast)...

    Thanks to this WOE, I've now lost: 11 kilos (24,2 pounds) and 69.5 centimeters (29.4 inches)! Unbelievable. Last year I was on Weight Watchers for exactly this length of time. Same amount of exercise. I gained 1 pound. (and I was STARVING :lol)

    I'm very close to my first mini-goal and have to start thinking about the next one... Cool!

    And I've decided to 'treat' myself to a race walking camp to 'learn how to walk' (as my husband says). I'm going to walk the Copenhagen Marathon next May - at goal weight! THAT IS MY FINAL GOAL!

    This WOE has taught me so much - about what is possible and about myself. I wouldn't have believed it if someone had told me the first few weeks. Though I have to say - when I started, I approached this as a way to eat - NOT a diet. Did that make the difference this time? I don't know... but thanks to you guys I've kept on even when the scale (and tape measure didn't move...).

    OK, well start of week 13. Hoping to make my mini-goal this week! or the next. One way or another - I AM GOING TO MAKE IT THIS TIME!!!!

      I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

          Congradualtions, my sister was bragging to me the other day how she's loosing 1/4 pound a week on weight watchers. I'm thinking big deal, but she is a serious carb addict and only argues with me when I talk about atkins or low carb. She thinks too much protein puts weight on.

            Isn't it funny how many people have to argue with you about your way of eating? People I've said nothing to - but have asked 'how are you losing weight?' start telling you how it doesn't work. I've decided that the reason for this is because they are jealous that you can eat all these YUMMY foods and lose weight - when everyone has been taught that DIET = DEPRIVATION.

            My thoughts - you want to deprive yourself? Go right ahead! I'm having my steak with bernaisse sauce! And scalloped turnips! And mint chocolate chip ice cream! etc.

            Jealousy brings out ugliness in people! Isn't it nice to be doing something that other people are envious of? he he he ....

              I'm laughing hysterically at all those other people as I'm slimming down smaller than I've been in my entire adult life! And eating luxurious foods the whole time!!

                Walking camp? That sounds fun and exciting. Maybe I should see if we have something like that here. Congratulations on doing such a great job!

                  Congratulations on reaching your first mini-goal

                  And well done for choosing such a terrific 'treat' to reward yourself for all your hard work

                        congrats on the great job you have done working your Atkins. Have fun at your camp and training for your marathon. O tried the race walking but my technique is off for the straghtknee grand strick thingie. But you can go very fast using those techniques.

                          I sort of backed into the race walking.... I decided to walk a marathon, as a goal. Then I found the Copenhagen Marathon allows walkers BUT you have to finish in 6 hours. Well, 26.2 miles in 6 hours is quite a fast walk... So then I started looking for ways to walk that fast....

                          Anyway - I haven't tried the race walking before so hopefully I will learn it well enough to be able to increase my speed from my measly 3 miles per hour I'm going right now...

                          Should be interesting if nothing else...

                            I'm sure you will get much faster. I was only going 2MPH when I started my Atkins and walking now I walk off the front of the treadmill if I set the speed under 3.5 MPH and can do 7.5 MPH on the flat tread.

                            That is a great reward. even if you don't finish in under the time limit you can still finish the walk for yourself.

                              I'm off to my camp now... If you never 'talk' to me again you'll know why!

                              Thanks for all the inspiration! I can't believe I am actually going to a camp where there are people training for the olympics. Ha ha. I'm going to give them a lot of incidents to laugh about, I'm sure.... Oh well. It will be fun and inspirational! I'm sure if some 87 year old man manages to out walk me by double, I'll be motivated for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
