I gain anywhere from 3-7 pounds. It's due to water retention. So don't worry that it's fat gain.

OHHHHHHH Yes I am the queen of TOM weight gain. I usually gain AT LEAST 5-7lb. And I look like a sausage in everything I wear--or at least I feel like I look like a sausage. It'll be gone in a week! Don't sweat it. Just drink your water and get your exercise in. And avoid lots of salt/sodium--causes water retention.

        Only 2 lbs? Lucky!
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.

            Re: ???weight GAIN???

I gain at least two pounds usually 5 days before I start. I charted this last spring with a computer program similiar to fit day. Every day for several months I put my weight in and the food I ate. Five days before my period I'd gain 2-4 pounds no matter what I'd been eating. Also I get really hungry. The other day I had to have chocolate, this was the day brfore I started, Was at the grocery and got an atkins bar, some sort of new one. When I got to the car I started looking for it in the bags. When I couldn't find it I was so pissed, then I found under some other groceries. Today I am fine, there's chocolate in the house and I don't want it.

                Re: ???weight GAIN???

TOM is an abbreviation for Time Of the Month. And yes, DH is Dear Husband (or so I have gathered). The first rung of OWL is Veggies, so I think you are supposed to hold off on the fruits until a later rung. You can have all the broccoli and such you want, though.

Yes, tori is right - honeydew and cantaloupe melons come in on the 'berries' level/rung of OWL.
Watermelon is in the other fruits rung as it has lots more sugar in it.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

                      Re: ???weight GAIN???

Huh... I'm not exactly sure. Maybe someone else can answer that for both of us. But here are the rungs, in the order in which you should approach them, and some food choices for each (each serving as indicated has 5 carbs in it, so one serving may be eaten per day during that rung the first week after induction in which you add 5 carbs, and so on):

                      Vegetables
                      1 cup cooked spinach
                      2/3 cup red bell peppers
                      1 medium tomato
                      1 cup cooked broccoli
                      12 medium asparagus
                      1 cup cauliflower
                      1/2 cup chopped onion
                      1/2 California avocado
                      2/3 cup summer squash

                      Dairy
5 ounces farmer’s cheese or pot cheese
                      5 ounces mozzarella cheese
                      3/4 cup cottage cheese
                      3/4 cup ricotta cheese
                      3/4 cup heavy cream

                      Nuts and Seeds
                      1 ounce of:
macadamias (approximately 10 to 12 nuts)
                      walnuts (approximately 14 halves)
                      almonds (approximately 14 nuts)
                      pecans (approximately 14 halves)
                      hulled sunflower seeds (3 tablespoons)
roasted shelled peanuts (approximately 26 nuts)
1/2 ounce of cashews (approximately 9 nuts)

                      Fruits
                      1/3 cup blueberries (fresh)
                      3/4 cup raspberries (fresh)
                      3/4 cup strawberries (fresh)
                      1/4 cup cantaloupe or honeydew

                      Juices
                      1/4 cup lemon juice
                      1/4 cup lime juice
                      1/2 cup tomato juice

                        Re: ???weight GAIN???

                        Hi!

You can stay on each rung according to how you lose weight. It's all about finding out what your body can or cannot take while you move up each rungs. Some folks go with Dr. A's suggestion of 1 rung a week, some will stay on a rung for 2 weeks or longer (it's in your book under OWL or the end of Induction...I cant' remember..but it's there ). It really depends on your weight loss and how fast/slow you're losing weight.

Ask all the questions you need! That's why we're all here

                        Oh, and by the way....

who on earth only gains 2 pounds during TOM?? I'm so jealous! LOL...I take on anywhere between 4-8 pounds depending on the salt intake and amount of red meat. Oye!!

                        Best wishes on your journey!

                            Re: ???weight GAIN???

I'm planning on staying about 2 weeks on each. I'm on the dairy rung right now which is kind of a joke...I still only eat about 3-4 oz. of cheese a day, and I added in yogurt for a couple days, but now I'm like...oh, well, that was fun, but so yesterday. LOL. I'm a person that has favorites and would eat them everyday if you let me (like grilled chicken and spaghetti squash) but I do try to vary stuff more than that!

I would recommend at least 2 weeks, that way you can rotate in new foods and see if they cause a reaction or cravings.

and ditch the juice ofr the berrie rung too. Dr Atkins tells us not to drink juice but eat the whole fruit and we have has some lemon and/or lime juice for flavoring stuff since day one of induction.

you can also squat on a rung and just stay there if y9u are content with your foods and your weight loss. I added more veggies and an ounce of nuts and stayed for 6.5 months till I thought I wanted low carb bread and climbed higher to get it.
