  • How long did you stay on each rung?

    Hi all,

I'm thinking of moving into OWL and I've been reading around about it. I get the impression that it is up to you when you move up a rung - is that right?

I just interest to hear from you all how long you stayed on each rung and if you did them in order? Did anyone move up too fast and come back down?

    Thanks,

    Baarb

just answeree you other topic and included this there but basically it is up to you. you can go real slow and investigate the foods on the rungs in depth or you can move fast and do it one a week till you have issues.
rememeber the new to your food only 3 times the first week you add it applies to all new to you foods even if you already pasted that rung.

Also keep in mind how much weight you want to lose. Have fast you go through each rung may affect the speed of your loss.

Good luck! And have fun in the OWL section of your journey.

Re: How long did you stay on each rung?

I stayed on extended induction for a few weeks, and then started moving up one rung and week and have done fine. In fact, I started losing MORE when I was introducing new and different foods. And, man oh man, it made a difference in how satisfied I feel. LOVE being able to eat a little fruit now... or the small serving of butter beans I had with lunch yesterday... I highly recommend moving up. It doesn't feel nearly so restrictive makes you realize this is a WOE you really CAN live with forever!

I didn't personally, but do know of people who have moved up and back down again. But, I think that most people tolerate the rungs well, generally speaking. So, give it a try, and let us know how it goes. Good luck and enjoy!

          Thanks everyone

Adena - I can't wait until the legumes rung - I have missed them most of all!

But am taking it slow at first.

Re: How long did you stay on each rung?

I am doing about a month per rung, but my DH only has a few pounds to lose so he is doing it by the week. He only adds in one new food a week and doesn't vary much.

The fun thing is that you find out how your body reacts to certain foods -- you learn to stay away from the ones that cause cravings, bloat or weight gain and find the things that your body can handle. It is like a big experiment learning about yourself. I think you'll like it!!

Re: How long did you stay on each rung?

I did two weeks on each rung but haven't really moved past the legume rung. I never have been a big bean eater and I'm happy with the berries. I use unsweetened soy milk in my coffee but did that since day one cause I just couldn't tolerate cream in my coffee.

Re: How long did you stay on each rung?

I stayed on the first rung a very long time. My diet pre-Atkins included alot of Asian vegetables and other veggies that are low carb but not on the Induction list. So I spent my time trying those veggies out. The other rung I spent a long time one was the other fruits rung. Again, I had alot of variety in my diet pre-Atkins in terms of fruits, so I spent a lot time trying out those fruits.

What you need to do is figure out how you would like your Maintenance Diet to be. For example, you weren't much of a veggie lover, but now you've found you like veggies and would like to incorporate them and others into your Maintenance diet. Well, try them out. Try them out in combination with each other. I found that I cannot eat any dish that combines tomatoes with eggplant---unless I want to be tempted from eating everything in the house, including the water pipes and roofing shingles. However, I can eat tomatoes and eggplant by themselves, without any problems.

OWL is your time to start individualizing Atkins.
