  • The purpose of OWL

    I sure learned it tonight. Corn is a trigger food for me. I Did fine with other starchy food groups. White potato I have avoided because I know I will have portion issues. Sweetpotato I have been eating about 2 weeks. After eating a corn tortilla about an hour later I could dive into any sugar treat. I am craving ###### and I am feeling hungry.

    I wont eat this again soon. So I am chugging the water and had some cream cheese to keep out of the ########$

    Isn't OWL great? Dr. Atkins really did us a favor by including this phase because we can see how different foods affect us. So when we reach goal and move to Maintenance phase, we'll know how to eat for our slimmer bodies.

    When I moved to the grains rung, I added whole wheat. I didn't have any weight loss problems, but my asthma and allergies reactivated---with a vengeance! I have been talking with my pulmonologist and he said, I should reintroduce wheat very slowly into my diet so I can build up a tolerance to it. So, I've started with half a wheat cracker once a week.

      if you are that far you might want to get a copy of Dr Atkins book Atkins For Life cause in there he further breaks down the OLW food lists into eat sparingly, eat in moderastion and eat reguluarly based on teh Atkins Glycemic Index he greated to let us know if a food will have an impact on our blood sugar stability weight loss and craving control and corn is on the eat sparingly list.
      Elleth used those lists in her OWL stickies acceptable for the rung foods but left off the eat in modration stuff.

        This stuff is so fascinating--all the foods that trigger cravings, allergies, or reactions that we didn't know about before. I'm not very far into the rungs, but I realize that peanuts do that to me and I try to avoid them like the plague. Just looking at a jar of peanut butter makes me drool.

        I will definitely be picking up a copy of Atkins for Life...I want to understand this stuff a bit more...

              Hi!
              I too am beginning to move into OWL. I was on extended induction for awhile, but feel comfortable and excited to start new foods. Just wanted to say that the Atkins for life book was actually the first one i read, and it is a really good book. I then joined here, and got the DANDR. Ok, hope you all have a happy thanksgiving!

                Atkins for LIfe moved all the veggies to rung 1 AGR chart which is confussing for new folk and why it is really for the putter phases per Dr Atkins but it has lots of follow up information not in DADNR 2002.
