  • Question

Hi everyone hope you are all well and your dieting is going well. Im just about to move onto OWL and im a bit confused i understand u increase your carbs by 5g a week, from the six food groups on pg 174 of the atkins book, what i dont get is it says add one group at a time but eat no more than three times a week of the same food group to begin with. Does this mean for example on day one of the OWL i have the say a tomato from the first group, the next day i can move onto group two and say have cottage cheese? or should i stay on group one for more than one day before moving on? and and also i take it u cant mix the food groups in the same meal to start with? Thanks guys.

    Re: Question

6 food groups?? do you have DR ATKINS NEW DIET REVOLUTION 2002 copyright?

there are 9 groupings for us to reintroduce and we do so in the order Dr Atkins prescribed. the fisrt group id 5 more net carbs of those yummy induction veggies you eat your 3 cups from induction and add 5 more net of those. after a week or more you when you are satisfied you have explored those foods and undertand if any of them effect your blood sugar and/or weight loss you move to the next rung which is the fresh dairy on and keeping those veggies you now can have 5 net carbs of the fresh dairy foods.

if you don't have DANDR 2002 check the OWL forum stickies for the rungs and some help understanding better.

        Re: Question

I'm guessing you have the paperback version of the book? On page 171 the Carbohydrate Ladder is listed. The "power of 5" is a suggestion of foods you can add to the daily menu.

Good reading, firewoman - you have spotted an error in DANDR which many people dont notice!!
Here is a post that explains what it really should say

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

                Re: Question

if you want to. many fok go slower so they know how their body reacts to many of the foods in those rungs. it is a double edged sword we are playig with in OWL. we are testing both new foods and a bigger net carb number and some times it is hard to tell moving rapidly if it was the higher carb level or the food on the rung or the whole rung that is causing us the issues should we have any.
