  • What to do??

Hey guys, I have a question for you, but here is some background first.

OK. So here I am, trying to do Atkins "Right". I am not overweight, and I am pretty sure I have a very low glucose intolerance. I am doing this for health reasons. I feel 100% better eating low-carb (I can't even begin to name all the great things that come with the weight loss). Anyhew, I am hovering around 128lbs right now, my goal is somewhere between 115 and 118 (which is about right for my height - somewhere in the middle of the healthy BMI range), I might just call it around 124, I seem to remember weighing that much once and liking it (it was a few years ago, and it didn't last too long). Mostley I'm just trying to create a new healthy lifestyle here.

So. Should I start at induction and work up all the rungs as per DANDR, or do I start at like Pre-Maitenence (since I have 10lbs or less to lose??). I ask this because I have done induction and tried moving up the rungs properly, but it seems too slow for me. Oh yeah, and on top of it I keep falling off the wagon , but that's another post altogether. I still plan on keeping track of what I eat, so I can see how different foods affect me, and I wouldn't introduce new foods all at once.

I dunno, maybe I'm just "stuck".

    Re: What to do??

Typically, if you still have poundage to lose, start at Induction. Spend 2 weeks on it, then move to OWL, Pre-Maintenance (when you are 5-10 pounds from your goal weight), then to Maintenance.

If you are already in your desired weight zone and have no need to lose anymore weight, you could start at Maintenance (Atkins For Life is the book that explains how to to do this).

In your case, you went through Induction and are going through OWL. What are your specific OWL difficulties?

      Re: What to do??

Thanks for the input Megs!! I just went through my Atkins for Life book, and I found the exerpt (sp?) I was looking for:

"If you have just a bit of weight to lose (perhaps up to 10 pounds if you're a postmenopausal woman or up to 20 extra pounds if you'r an active young man, you can probably achieve you're goal weight by starting at 60 grams of net carbs per day . . ."

He then explains how to increase and decrease your carbs from there.

I don't have any difficulties with OWL per say. I just keep falling totally off the wagon every week or so. I am trying to work on that right now . . . you know journaling and all that. Trying to figure out whats going on in my head.

Keep up with that journal. Also review your foods. There are some perfectly legal foods that give me cravings, so I have to avoid them.

I am in a similar situation.
I have 9 pounds to lose after one week of a clean induction. I think I may move to OWL until I get to 5 pounds from my goal weight. I don't ahve Atkins for life but may look for it. If you have any other advice, I'd love to hear it.
          Thanks.
