  • Gained 2 lbs in first rung?

I just started OWL monday. I added only 5 net carbs of veggies a day. Pumpkin (canned puree, using it as a side). Pumpkin is not new to my diet, I have eaten it several times over the past month and through thanksgiving. However, I have now gained 2 lbs after only 2 days.

It is that TOM so I am not sure but it was that TOM already when I was 2 lbs lighter so I am not sure if that makes a difference, also now that I think about it, I did gain a few lbs during thanksgiving as well even though I was eating legal foods only. Could the pumpkin and I not get along perhaps? Could this be one of the foods that is causing me to loose?

I think I will cut it out and just add another veggie and see if I start loosing again. If so, I still wont know if its just fluctuations from TOM but, after TOM I will try adding it again and if I go up, I will know.

Or is it really possible to gain in only the first rung of OWL. I am metobolically very low resistant to weight loss so i thought surely I could move up the rungs no prob.

any input? or did I answer my own question, haha.

Unless you added like 7000 calories to that pumpkin there is no way it could add 2 pounds of fat. It likely you have temporary water gain causing weight fluctuations, that will soon pass.

    TOM adds water weight
    Hormones add water weight
    Salt adds water weight
    Some meds add water weight
Strenuous exercise can add water weight
Extra bulk in your gut also increases your baseline weight until it's eliminated, just as drinking water does till you pee.

So then I shouldnt worry about the pumpkin making me gain or worry that just 5 extra net carbs went over my unknown CCLL?

No, not unless you ate 7000 calories of it, like boonie said! The things to watch for when you add new foods are:

        1) Does the new food cause cravings?
        2) Does the new food make you feel ill?
        3) Does the new food cause intestinal discomfort?

The foods you are adding in rung 1 are all foods from induction. If it's a food you've already ate, you should have no problems with it. If it's a "new" induction veggie (one that's on the list but you haven't eaten before) eat it only 3x the first week, watch for the above symptoms, and if you don't react poorly to it, you can eat it daily after that. Keep drinking your water, and try some other veggies. My personal favorite is spaghetti squash--I usually eat it as a main meal with chicken/broccoli alfredo. It's DELICIOUS and I still can't believe it's a veggie.

I did not know this! This could explain a great deal as I've just upped my exercise quite a bit and have fluctuated in a very annoying way.

Boonie, (or anyone) how does this occur? Does it go away? Does the body adjust?

          Thanks,

The exercise breaks down muscle tissue, the body protects the 'injured' tissue with extra fluid while it mends, and strengthens. The water will leave, and you may have a small muscle gain which is also shown on the scales, but nothing like the water. Sure beats the heck outta fat, pound for pound it takes up less space!
