  • dairy rung & cream cheese?

I am on the dairy rung and I have a question, obviously lol

I have decided to cut out cream cheese for a couple of weeks and was wondering if anyone had done the dairy rung without changing their carb count?
I ended rung 1 with around 20g or carbs per day with the 4 cups of veggies and I want to try and progress up the rungs and yet I'm trialing myself with no cream cheese. Should I still stick to adding 5g extra of dairy or make it a little less because I'm not going to be eating the cheese. I think I'm confusing myself more lol

Here's the question, can I do the dairy rung and cut out my cream cheese and still be able to work out if a dairy food effects me? or should I be cutting out the cream cheese back on rung 1 for a couple of weeks so I know for sure?

Sorry if it's confusing, imagine how I'm feeling lol

Re: dairy rung & cream cheese?

I think I understand what you're getting at.

You suspect that cream cheese is giving you problems and you want to take it out of your plan and see if it makes a difference?

If those two questions are answered with "Yes" then I would suggest not adding anything new until you determine whether or not the cream cheese is part of your problem. You can continue with your 4 (or more) cups of veggies and not indulge in cream cheese. I've found that it usually takes a couple days when cutting something out to be able to tell for sure. You have to cut it out, begin losing again, and then try adding it back in again to see if it truly was the culprit.

The dairy rung is a great rung, though because of yogurt and ricotta and cottage cheeses...oh, and milk and half n half. So, get on with finding out if the cream cheese is a problem and then get right back to experimenting with other dairy products.

      Thankyou Joy!

lol you made it sound so simple and now that you have written it like, it is!
I have been on the dairy rung for the past 2 weeks, but I wanted to try cutting out cream cheese for a while. So yes, the answer is yes to both of those.

I think I will go back to rung 1 - no dairy for 1 or more weeks and NO cream cheese! hehe now that is going to test me But I want to know, so it will be worth it.

I can't wait to try yoghurt & cottage cheese though - soon Thankyou so much

        Ditto what Joy said

Also I want to ask..how much cream cheese are you eating? It may not be cream cheese itself, but the amount of it that you are eating. If you do see it is causing you an issue, you can try readding it in smaller amounts. You didn't just up your cream cheese intake when you started the dairy rung? sorry I am kind of reading into your post.. but I could be wrong.

I found on the dairy rung I didn't up my cheese intake at all, but added new dairy, yogurt and ricotta were what i choose.

Re: dairy rung & cream cheese?

I have been eating 3 ozs of cream cheeses a day ever since induction, well for most days, somedays I haven't.

I never ate cream cheese at all before Atkins! It always seemed in the naughty list of foods I just had the thought this week, as I was reading about the different dairy foods and carbs etc: that I haven't really found out if cream cheese is a factor for me. My losses aren't that great each week and I know it could be due to exercise, because I'm definitely not stalled as the inches keep disppearing, I just wanted to make sure cheese is ok for me before I go for the other dairy.

When I started the dairy rung recently, I still have been eating the cream cheese but also added some cream to my decaf coffee - 3 times in the first week and then this week I was reading up on yoghurts, but wanted to sort out where I am at with cream cheese, if that makes sense. I'm not going to add any dairy now until I know if the cheese doesn't like me as good as it should.

Thankyou for your help, I appreciate it and I'm really looking forward to understanding more and more how different foods effect me. Hard until I get used to it, but good and definitely yummy fun

Yes then I would definately cut it out to try..do you eat any other cheeses as well? Cheese can be a staller in alot of people...

i know it can be very confusing at the beginning, you are getting off to a good start but cutting out the cheese to see what the effects are, easier to do it now than have to do it later on when you've added sever rungs.

Good luck with your OWL! I'm sure you will do fine..

Re: dairy rung & cream cheese?

I'm not a huge fan of cheese, as in hard cheeses, I might use a small amount for on top of something and grill it or something like that.
Coming from a previous no fat/low fat mentality I think I've learned to like cream cheese too much, and I even read somewhere that cheese can have the same effect on your brain as chocolate ! Releases seratonin, the feel good chemicals!

Cheese! cheese! cheese! - haven't had any today and I'm still fine lol
              Thanks Sadie

made myself laugh today when I had the thought that I would be served well by a 'no cheese challenge' It's all good, I can do it!

Re: dairy rung & cream cheese?

Yummy cheese. I've often wondered too, if cheese causes me problems. But, I've never cut it out to test the theory either. Then again, i've been eating cheese all along and have lost 75 lbs. My bigger worry with cheese is that I suspect that I have yeast issues and cheese contributes to an environment in the intestines that allows yeast to thrive. One of the things that gets cut out first when treating intestinal yeast is cheese.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that cheese isn't a bad food for you!

In regards to the Dairy Rung...just remember as you go through OWL, your fat intake decreases slightly. So when you eat a DAiry Rung food, you might want to eat alittle less of the Induction cheese limit.

Re: dairy rung & cream cheese?

Thanks Joy, and ohh you have done so great and with cheese. I've never heard of intestinal yeast! What a curse it is then that cheese, but I guess it's a lot better than all the other things I used to eat!

It's grocery shopping day today and I am not going to buy any cheese lol

Megs, thankyou! Yes, that is another thing for my brain to work out too I realised. The percentages and knowing it's not an exact science like induction and extended induction. I can do those in my sleep now and now it's all new again, another learning curve. It's good though.

Well - I better stop writing about cheese for a bit I think

Re: dairy rung & cream cheese?

Just remember this is a fat balancing act. So if you eat a Dairy Rung food, you might want to skip an ounce of the Induction cheese or a serving of added fat.

Once you get the hang of it, it will become second nature. And to tell you the truth, some days, you won't want to eat another serving of an added fat, either in the form of a butter/oil/mayo thing or in the form of cheese, because you're body will just tell you "NOOOOOOO More today!"

so here's my findings - it made no difference! sob sob and yaaay
it's been 10 days of no cream cheese at all (or any cheese for that matter) and it hasn't made the scale budge at all. Neither up nor down.
So does that mean if I add a little back in and the scale goes up, it could still be a food that affects me?
I might also post some of my menus in the review section a little later

Thanks for your help though, and I do feel encouraged to work through owl so that I get an idea of how I can make this WOE permanent

I had cream cheese twice last week and also have had yoghurt smoothies and this week I lost 3lbs straight into onederland. It's the best feeling and I don't think it's the cheese, it's just me so I'm really pleased.
Thanks for all the input Joy, Sadie and Megs, it really helped wrack my brain around OWL
