  • stalling... HELP!!

Well i hit the dreaded stall plateau 20 pounds before my target weight. Since I am eating less since I started Atkins with total carbs between 40-50 gms, the likely culprit is my exercise routine, which I have to admit has increased in complexity only some.

Since most of you have stalled in some way or form on your own diets, what is the best way to tackle this? My routine as of now is 20 minutes 15 MPH cycling with 40 minutes treadmill mixed with brisk walking/jogging (around 5 MPH). I try and shoot for these work out sessions 5 times a week but because of work it ends up mostly being 4 sessions.

The problem I think is not enough resistance training..So I thought of mixing the days up like so ... Day's 1 and 3 and 5 will be weight lifting (60 min. total session), which consists of 7 types of weight lifting (3 sets each) that work the main muscles of the body, with each set being lower weight but high rep counts ( i heard that's the best way for weight loss via weights).. and days 2 and 4 will consists of the cardio mentioned in the previous paragraph..

So. this is where I NEED YOUR HELP. yes, YOU!. For those of you that encorporated similar amounts resistance training, was this approach successful for you? Any insights on my exercise routine? Should I go back to Induction period? All the above?

    Thanks ALL!

Hi Peeter I am glad you delurked and posted here!
You didnt give any idea of how your weightloss journey is going apart from saying you are 20 pounds short of goal.
Maybe you could add some stats like height, gender, start/current/goal weights to your signature to help us get to know your situation?
Are you still on induction? (I assume you are as you are posting in this forum)

    Edited to add
Though on looking more closely at your post I see you did say you are at 40-50 grams of carbs, so must be on OWL now. What rung of OWL are you at?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

When you say stall; how long did you stop losing weight now.
Also did you measure yourself ?
It might be you are not losing weight but do shrink.
A stall is only considered that when both the scale and measurements didn't change for at least 4 weeks.
Else it could well be your body is just taking a break and is adjusting and then you will see it starting to move again in just a bit of time.
Another reason could be is that you reached your CCLL and that you have to drop down slightly in carbs to start losing again.
There is no need to go back to induction though.

In addition to what soliwit wrote, have you been following your inches lost? The scale can be misleading because if you lose a pound of fat but gain a pound of muscle, that nasty scale will register the same weight. Measuring inches will give you an indication of fat loss. For example, the scale doesn't move off 200 pound for two week, but during that time, your waist measurement has decreased from 40 inches to 39 inches---you've lost fat.

Also have you gotten your % body fat measured? % body fat is a good indicator of fat loss too. For example, the "normal" body fat for a male is about 15%. If you get your body fat measured and it's 15%, you can assume that you've lost fat and your current weight is due to muscle not fat.
