  • OWL and TOM

I thought I can start owl-ing tomorrow, but now my time of month appears and I decided to postpone it a bit. My cravings just won't let me have an accurate look
Have any of you made "wrong" decisions about your food/food group tolefance because of tom? What do you do then? Just stay where you are and try to survive? Because that's what I'm gonna do!

        Re: OWL and TOM

My weakest TOM-induced moments happen 4-5 days before it. So I've super vigilant during that time.

Also I retain water the week leading to TOM. So I don't try out new foods/increase carbs during that time, nor do I weigh myself....it's futile.

I hate TOM. Last time I gave in to a chocolate craving but then I felt better and got right back on the wagon. I did it to preserve my sanity and the lives of my family.

In the "Health Chat" forum, there's a thread about chocolate cravings and magnesium deficiency. It might be helpful to you.

              Re: OWL and TOM

Honestly, if I weigh at all, I try not to pay any attention to the number during TOM. And a few days before TOM, I nearly always eat one of my "dicey foods" in a controlled-serving setting and cut the rest of my carbs back the rest of the day... I didn't start out that way, but now part of my plan is adjusting the rest of my food intake to deal with my hormonal time... there's been a lot of trial and error for me, and it's a very personal balance, but it's important to figure out how your body operates -- at all times of the month (IMO).
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.

              Vigilance, not perfection.

If anything, I probably allow myself to eat a little more of legal foods to keep myself sated during this time. And I avoid weighing until I've physically feel that I'm not bloated anymore.
                Stats:
                Age: 41
                Sex: F
                Height: 5'2"
                Highest weight ever: 170+

I guess I got lucky, I had that uterine ablation, where they take the lining of your uterous out, and your TOM practially stops, and the hormones still come thru, but not near as strong.
