Since you're in OWL Phase, alcoholic beverages are allowable on the appropriate rung....so I don't need to go into all that "your body burns alcohol before it will burn fat and carbs. So any food you eat with the alcohol will be metabolized and converted to glycogen/fat until all the alcohol is metabolized. And don't bother checking yourself with the ketostix because one of the by-products of alcohol metabolism has a similar chemical structure to the ketone the stix test, therefore false positives are likely" stuff.

Personally, I would try to figure out what kind of food you are having with your Valentine meal, because champagne doesn't not compliment all foods and all foods don't compliment champagne. One of the better books on food and beverage pairing is What to Drink with What You Eat, you might want to consult that book.

      Re: Champagne

as for brands....I'm not a huge champagne fan (I prefer a sparkling wine), but there are 2 I can tolerate, they are Pol Roger and Mumm. a little pricey -- here they're around $50 cdn a bottle, but I've yet to find a cheaper champagne i can drink.

      Hope this help.

          Re: Champagne

There are lots of great California sparkling wines (champagne-style) that are affordable and delicious. Gloria Ferrer, Piper Sonoma, Chandon, and many, many more. Champagne will complement most foods, just choose the type, brut (dry), or blanc de noir (pink and a little fruity), and there are others types. If you were going to do a red meat though I would consider instead of champagne, a really nice red wine. Or have a glass of champagne before or after your meal. It serves as a great apertif and also goes well with dessert. Have fun!

Korbel is a top class choice that isn't too pricey. You can choose from several varieties; I prefer Extra Dry.
