Hi everyone, I noticed at that site, Linda's Locarb Recipe's something called Carbquick...what is it? Any help would greatly be appreciated...I know that site says those recipes are all induction okay....but I tend not to agree...some of the ingredients are peanut butter and such.....am I reading wrong...?

    Thanks

My thoughts about Induction are "if it ain't on the list, it don't cross my lips." One ounce of nuts is allowed if you choose to stay on Induction past 2 weeks. I have mixed feelings about this because from my experience as OWL moderator, nuts are one of the most common 'problem' foods in terms of weight loss problems and portion control problems. And then there's the whole classification issue: for example, peanuts are legumes, but they are eaten as nuts so some folks include them in the nut/seed rung. Well, you can apply that logic to pomegranates, and say that pomegranates are allowed during the nut/seed rung because you only eat the seeds of pomegranates. Same thing for passion fruit, soybeans/other legumes and other vegetables and fruits whose seeds are the edible portions. It's a big can of worms, that doesn't need to be opened, imo.

Carbquick is a product made from a fiber called carbalose (or something like that). Anyhow, it's a bake mix that is similar to Bisquick, but low carb. I've never used it so I can't tell you how it works in recipes, how it tastes, etc.

      Re: Carbquick

Anything out of a box makes me squirmish! If you go for it, be sure to look at the list of ingredients and make sure there are no hidden carbs. Also, if you are induction my advise is to proceed with caution. Stay away from any questionable food as long as possible! I have never personally tried Carbquick, hopefully someone who has will stumble across this!

Not2late! I never thought about peanuts as legumes.... They always trap me into their portions size...but now I am even more resolved to stay away!

      Thanks for the advice!

        Re: Carbquick

As far as I know, only certain recipes on Linda's site are ok for induction and they are marked with an * - of course, I would always check for myself to know that any ingredients are actually induction legal

I have to ask a question on the peanut thing because I never realized before when I did this that it was such a contentious subject as far as where it fell on the rungs - this time around I have seen multiple posts about it....Is it a typo that it lists peanuts as acceptible on the nuts/seeds rung in DANDR? That is what I always based my opinion that peanuts belonged on that rung.

          Here's some more info...

This is the site I use to buy most of my lowcarb stuff once I'm done with induction. They have the nutrition label for carbquik and there seems to be a lot of mention of wheat. My best advice is to skip this product during induction if you can do without it.

            Re: Carbquick

Wow! Thanks guys, I really appreciate all the input! Yeah, I'm thinking I need to kickstart my whole situation with 2 weeks 'clean induction' I'm really struggling right now. Gotta get that mind set going again, I've come too far to have such set backs. Anyway, thank you so much for your feedback.

                Re: Carbquick

As Kylie said, Linda's site does not say that all of her recipes are induction friendly, the only ones that are have a '*' beside them!

Carbquick is made with wheat so it has to wait until the grains rung. I have tried it and I like it. I like to have a flour alternative since I consider this a woe. I have only used it a handful of times, but I liked it. it is similar to bisquick, and depending on the recipes it can have an aftertasted, i find that when it is used with a combination of other ingredients it's fine, but in something where it is the main ingredient like biscuits, I can taste it a bit...though IMO it's not a bad afterasted, just not a white flour taste.

I like it too... though I too use it rarely and in moderate quantities... like occasionally for breading. Avoided it during induction though... I seem to remember adding it in pre-maintenance.
