I have a couple of questions about coffee. I LOVE it I have heard it can stimulate your appitite, but it does not do that to me at all. As a matter of fact it helps me when I want to eat at night. Does it matter if it is decaf or not? I drink regular because Michael does. It doesn't keep me awake or anything. I could drink 100 cups and I would still go right to sleep. Sometimes I wish coffee would wake me up...lol. I don't put splenda in it, but I do put a little cream ( I know I have to watch how much cream I am using and I do), and a little DaVinci sugar free vanilla syrup in it. Sooo, is it okay to drink everyday, and has it been shown to stall in weight loss? I'm not using splenda or a lot of cream so I wouldn't think it would, but I though it would be a good idea to ask all of you Also, I don't count it as any part of my daily water intake. Everyone is so helpful here and I appreciate it so much
I Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend

    Re: Coffee

I think if the coffee does not stimulate hunger you are fine, but try and drink it in moderation and try to drink decaf whenever possible. Decaf still has caffine in it, but not nearly as much. I cannot touch coffee, I love it too much and makes me crazy with hunger.
It will be up to you to track your loss and see if it does effect you and to what degree. Sometimes its a tradeoff, you may lose a bit slower but its worth it to you because you love coffee too much to give it up. Its really is just a personal choice I believe, as long as you know it is not hindering your progress.

      Re: Coffee

      Thank you
I rarely drink coffee in the morning, but I love to drink it at night. I have always been a night time eater and binger, and for me I have found that it helps me so much to have 1-2 cups of coffee if I am wanting to eat. I lose the "I WANT SOMETHING TO EAT" thoughts that run through my head all night when I drink coffee. It's odd, but coffee really helps me not to eat or binge at night.

I am not hungry like I was before Atkins which I am so thankful for. For me I think the wanting to eat at night is a habit, and part of my food addiction.

        Re: Coffee

Coffee is one of those "your mileage may vary" things and it affects everyone differently.

Caffiene is an appetite-stimulant, and it also has a tendency to cause cravings, especially for sweets. It has been known to inhibit weight loss. So I would AT LEAST switch to decaf! Also, decaffeinated coffee is NOT caffiene-free; it just has the majority of the caffiene removed, but a small part remains.

Coffee also has carbs. Usually 1-2 per 8oz. cup. Make sure you're counting these carbs in your daily totals.

          Re: Coffee

Coffee has carbs!!! Say it isn't so I looked on a carb counter too
I wonder if coffees like "Snickerdoodle" or "Butter Pecan" and other DELISH coffees are more *sigh* I really enjoy coffee, and it really does help me with cravings, as strange as that may seem. I will limit myself to two cups a day, I'll switch to decaf, and I'll be sure to add in coffee carbs
Thanks again for all your help Julie

            Re: Coffee

Another member here drank coffee that she thought was OK but later found out it had powdered sugar in the grounds! So make sure you double-check anything that's flavored.

            As for the help--No problem!

Thanks so much Julie Yesterday I found a place that roasts all their coffee right there. They said I can call and special order coffee. When I do I will ask about the ingredients they use to make the coffees I want You're so helpful Julie...thank you!!!

Coffee makes me *less* hungry too. It actually suppresses my appetite.

I drink a lot less of it now because I can't afford the carbs.

It's so sad that coffee has carbs.

                    Re: Coffee

I see you've lost 13 pounds in the last 3 weeks. Your results tell me that what you've been doing so far has been working for you. Apparently the amount of caffeinated coffee you've been drinking is fine for your body to lose weight.

It's possible that switching to decaf may help your weight loss progress faster, but it may not either...you've been losing at a reasonable pace already. You may experience other health benefits from less caffeine as well.

In my opinion, if you're losing weight and the coffee helps keep you from cravings, I don't see a problem with drinking it in moderation.

By the way, my DaVinci sugar-free syrup HAS splenda in it as the sweetener. You must count that in your carb counts too. If you truly want a sweetener-free taste, stevia is an herbal alternative. I'm not sure if it has a carb count or not...someone else help me out here.

Ditto for me. I do drink decaf at night though because it will keep me awake esp since I've cut back on it so drastically. But a nice cup of decaf really helps me get through the nighttime munchies.

                        Re: Coffee

I am not as fortunate as the rest of you with coffee. I love it. It does not love me.

Every time I drink it, I gain weight and break out with zits all over my face. I do not have enough self control to stop at 1 fluid cup or even 2 fluid cups. I want more and more and more. Each "cup" of coffee (which really is a "mug" at 20 or even 24 ounces) with 2 or MORE tablespoons of cream or half and half in each one, I go wayyyyyyyy over my cream limits and my sweetner limits. Then I'm completely out of control and the amount of calories I consume just from cream is way, way too high.

Many of you may be able to "get away with it" in the beginning of your weight loss journey because of the amount of weight you need to lose. As you get closer to goal, or if you don't have quite as much to lose, you might want to reassess your coffee/creamer/sweetner intake.

                          Re: Coffee

It could be that coffee 'fills you up' due to the liquid and due to the calories of the beverage. 6 fluid oz of coffee (about 3/4 cup) has 4 calories and about 1 carb. 1 tablespoon of cream has about 50 and about 1 carb per tablespoon. So if you drink a small mug of coffee (12 oz), plus 2 or 3 tablespoons of cream that's about 100-150 calories and about 4-5 net carbs. 1 large egg has 75-80 calories and 1 carb. 1 large egg plus 1 oz carrots (about 40 calories and 3.5 net carbs) is about 110-120 calories and 4.5 net carbs.

Ive got a problem with coffee at the moment. Im consuming too much I think.

Even though Im having about 5 mugs a day, the strength levels are high, as Im noticing that Im finish a 100gram half caffeinated Nescafe jar every 4-5 days on my own.

Is this something that I need to worry about?

Well.....hate to be the bearer of bad news Freddy.....

An 8 oz mug (most coffee cup size) is 2 carbs.

So......on top of your regular carbs you've been shooting at....add 10.

Yikes....that's black of course. If you put anything in it...packet of splenda (1 carb)....tablespoon of cream (1 carb) that would be.....hold the 5, carry the 1....

20 carbs a day just with coffee!! Something to think about......

If it's not affecting your weight loss, you could be one of the 'lucky' people, but if you hit a stall at a certain point.....you might want to cut wayyyyy back!

                              Best of luck bro!
