Re: Is yogurt on the Dairy rung?
Yes! Look for ones that are whole milk/whole fat, or at least ones with with fewer carbs per serving. You can buy Carb Control yogurt, or even just plain yogurt. I've heard that Greek yogurt is amazing too, but I can't find it where I live...START 8/16/06 @ 270+~MG1: 220-12/2/06~MG2: 210-1/07~MG3: 199-3/2/07~MG4: 190-4/27/07~MG5: 180-7/04/07~GOAL: 170

Re: Is yogurt on the Dairy rung?
Greek yogurt is incredible! I like it plain with a little stevia and that's it. Of course, I'm still in induction so it's out of the question for me now but someday..........Starting weight 228.6

Re: Is yogurt on the Dairy rung?
Something that is really good (when you get to the berry rung) is mixing that Dannon Carb Control with a 1/4 of blueberries or strawberries, with club soda and ice in a blender....you don't even need splenda packets but you can and it makes a really nice smoothie! I haven't been able to find greek yogurt either. Stupid Midwest.

Re: Is yogurt on the Dairy rung?
Colleen, surely you could find the greek yogurt in Tarpon Springs!
This is the brand I get http://www.fageusa.com/classic_yogurt_info.html
They have it in the Tampa area at Wild Oats, Fresh Market and Chuck's Natural foods carry it. I haven't done it yet, but I'm going to ask my local Publix if they'll order it for me.~Joy

Re: Is yogurt on the Dairy rung?
No, 6 carbs total, 6 of which are sugars.
Now, remember, dairy (milk) products have NATURAL sugars which are called Lactose. The 6 grams of sugars are those natural sugars called lactose. They are ALLOWED. What you want to look for is ADDED sugar in the ingredients list. If you got greek yogurt, and it's 6 grams for a whole cup, I can tell you it most likely doesn't have added sugar. Enjoy!~Joy

Re: Is yogurt on the Dairy rung?
I got that one. I guess I've been confused...I'm still confussed
I know I'm going to sound really stupid because I'm confused BUT,
when you say, "dairy (milk) products have NATURAL sugars which are called Lactose. The 6 grams of sugars are those natural sugars called lactose" do I always do that...meaning if I am buying something dairy that has sugars do I not count them. I got really confused somewhere in there...lol.
I can't wait to try it~~~
Have you noticed if it has cause cravings with you at all???
Thanks for all your help Joy!*~Nicole~*

Re: Is yogurt on the Dairy rung?
Hopefully I can explain this well LOL
There are different types of sugars. Some are naturally occurring sugars and one of the easiest to spot is called Fructose. That's in FRUITS. It's a sugar, YES, but it is a natural sugar that happens in the fruit, well...naturally. Milk, and its products, have milk sugars which are called Lactose. Once again, these are naturally occurring sugars and they don't have the dramatic impact on our blood glucose (and insulin) as the evil white granulated processed sugar does.
When we do Atkins Ongoing Weight Loss phases, we start adding foods back in that have these natural sugars. That's why fruit and dairy products have their own "rung" or "phase" of adding them back in.
We STILL avoid "sugar" and "High fructose corn syrup" as an ADDED ingredient in ANYTHING. So, when I look at a nutrition label (such as for this yogurt) I see 6 total carbohydrates and I see that 0 is fiber and 6 is sugars. My first question (and I'm sure yours is too) is what are those Sugars? So, the next thing to do is look at the list of ingredients. Well, the ingredients say milk, cream and bacteria. No added sugar there, right? So that means that the sugars are the NATURAL milk sugars (lactose).
Think of this another way. In a couple weeks you are going to add berries and perhaps melons in on the berry rung. If you pick a fresh berry, it's ingredient list is what?? Berry. Period. There is nothing else. However, if you were to look at the fitday nutrition information, you will see some Sugars. That's the natural sugar, fructose, in the berry. Now, if you were to go to the grocery store and pick up a bag of berries, you might see a higher number of sugars than what you might see for fresh berries in fitday. Why? Look at the ingredient list and see that it might say: "Berries, sugar, poly-crapola-something-or-other and red die no.6"
Does that help??~Joy
