  • No weigt loss

Hi Everyone, I've been going along for 3 weeks now.
My 4th week on Atkins starts This week.
    I lost 7 pounds and that's it.
Everyone that sees my husband says "Oh Mike you've lost so much weight".!!
He's lost about 15+ pounds. I'm happy for him but they look at me and say nothing.
I can tell in my clothes but lets face it 7 pounds is mostly water weight and some of your clothes fitting a little better.
I'm very disappointed and it hurts me I've worked so hard for this to work.
I do take Blood Pressure Meds but it's mostly for fluid retention.
That should stop my weight loss.
I run up a menu on fitday. I've added an axtra 5 grams of carbs from induction. My net carbs averaged 15-17. Now they are averaging 17-20 NET.
I'm not getting on the scale because it will disappoint me.
Mike is really thinning out. He's down 2 pants sizes.
Me? the same they are only looser.
what's the deal? I hate it.
For sure I'll not quit but getting on that scale and weighing myself tells me nothing. depending on my fluid gain I may gain weight.
Will the weight still eventually come off in time.

    Re: No weigt loss

Men lose weight "easier" than women. That's the sad fact of life. So unless you want to drive yourself crazy, you're better off not comparing yourself to your husband.

Another ladies only factor is TOM (time of month). Many ladies retain water during this period. I, myself, retain/gain 3-7 pounds of water weight before my TOM. So I don't go near a scale or measuring tape then!

Also, some folks run into something we call the "Post Induction Stall Syndrome". It's a mini weight loss stall that occurs between weeks 3-6 of this diet. Dr. Atkins explained it in his videos that this happens because your bodies are adjusting to the changes we made to it during the 14 Day Induction. Once our bodies adjust, we lose weight again.

If you've added 'new' food to your OWL menu, you might want to test to see if it's not the 'new' food that's doing it. By 'new', I mean a food that you did not eat during Induction. For example, you didn't eat turnips during your Induction. So during your Rung 1 OWL you decide to add turnips. Turnips are 'new' to your system. Any 'new' food should be added only a few times a week, to test if it affects your loss.

      Re: No weigt loss

The only changes I've made is adding more vegetables to make up for the 5 carb increase. My calories are averaging 1500 a day. Carbs 20 or under NET, protein and Fats seem to be close as they were on induction. My fats are a little lower and carbs little higher.
I don't get TOM. I'm 56. Maybe it's my age or my slow metabolism.
Yes there is deffinatley a weight loss stall. I guess I can plan on not loosing anything in the next several weeks. ugh!!
oh well It took me a while to get like this so I'll have to be satisfied with waiting.
I surely didn't have to start at over 200 pounds. I read some of the posts by some who were 280 pounds. My hat goes off to all those that have lost so much weight.
It's so wonderful to see that. I started at 180 or so... I've lost 7 pounds and don't have to loose over 100+. So I can't complain.
      Thanks for your help

i weigh what you weigh now...the first time i did atkins i started at 220. this time i started at 193. big diff! (mentally at least). i do think it goes a little slower when you start closer to your goal. that is just my experience. hang in there...i am the least patient person in the world. don't give up. patience grasshopper! are you exercising? i also notice that when i "turn it up a notch" it makes a difference...keep us posted!
(and do NOT compare yourself with the fellas,,,,heck they can lose weight in their sleep. not fair!)

I know it's easy to get discouraged, but YOU'VE LOST 7 LBS.! I'm 51 and I can almost assure you part of the reason it may be slower is your age. But, hey, we're young! The best thing you can do is to not worry about your husband's loss and focus on your own. I started Atkins over 3 years ago. I've lost 40 lbs. and kind of holding there, not because that's all I need to lose, but I've gotten comfortable there. I'm now trying to break thru that barrier to lose another 20. I know what I need to do, I just need to DO IT! I had slacked off of exercise which I have now restarted. You know, when I started Atkins I didn't weigh for 3 months. Alot of folks can't do that. I just know with me, I had rather see alot of lbs. at a time than, say 1/2 lb. That's just me. If you can just stay off the scale. Maybe check it about once a month. This is all just my opinion and what works for me. You just have to find your own way.

As long as it is coming off be happy. I am losing super slow this time around but at least I am still losing. My hubby is dieting too, but not low carbing. Of course he has lost twice as much as me in 1/2 the time. Men. What are ya gonna do? Any loss is a good loss and they say the slower it comes off the more likely it will stay off. So here's to us slow losers!

              Re: No weigt loss

Thank You everyone for those encouraging words.
I quit exercising and guess why!!! I gained weight. it was the muscle mass that I was gaining and the scale was going up.
so I quit. Went to the Drs to get my prescription refilled and I gained weight and he was all over me. he was aggravated. Said I was going to have a stroke.
ugh I'll just walk on the treadmill.
I'm an LMT so believe me I bust butt when I'm working. I sweat bullets so I have no idea why this weight isn't just rolling off only to say that it's my age.

                Re: No weigt loss

If you are gaining muscle mass that's great, especially at our age (HA! "our age", I'm way older than you). The more muscle you have, the faster you burn fat. I know that it's frustrating when you get on the scale, but that additional muscle is GREAT!

Keep up the exercise and then suddenly you will get a big swoosh of weight loss, and after you lose the weight you will look terrific because of all the muscle you've gained.
