  • Advice needed Please..

    Hi

Ive been doing Atkins cheat free for 5 weeks now and yesterday i went a little bit off track.

I was at my nephews birthday party, which started at 2.30pm and lasted until about 9.30pm! I made sure i ate before i left so i wouldnt be to hungry. But temptation got the better of me!

I ended up having a couple glasses of wine and i was snacking on Cheese, Strawberries, Grapes and Raspberries, these were the only atkin friendly foods available. (Although im not on the fruit rung yet)

So now im wondering if i should do an induction for a week or if i will be ok to carry on with what i have been eating?

Would the wine and fruit take me out of ketosis?

I plan to get right back on track today, and drink loads of water to flush it all out my system.

thanx in advance for any help or advice u can give

    Hello,

I would say don't worry too much at this stage. The wine and fruit will probably have affected you a little, but as this is not a massive carb binge I would say just get right back to where you were before and drink your water today.

I would say also, as a cheat that is quite well managed, if you see what I mean.

As far as getting knocked out of ketosis, it depends on how much fruit you had and what your CCLL is. The wine has about 3-4 carbs per glass, but the alcohol of it must be burned off first before your body can return to burning fat.

Strawberries and raspberries are relatively low GI foods, and strawberries are about 1g per large berry, whereas raspberries are about 1g carbs for 5 berries. Grapes are much sweeter, coming in at 1g carbs for 2 grapes. This should give you an estimate of how many carbs you consumed. Normally I measure by "cups" but people don't usually carry measuring cups out in public, so I gave you the info per berry.

I don't think induction is neccessary, unless you feel like cravings have returned. It will take a day or two for you to get back in the swing of things, but I suggest that you get back on track at whatever rung you're on, drink your water, and carry on!

**EDITED TO ADD** I used fitday to get these numbers. Other carb counters may give different values.

It depends how much you ate and/or drank. 5 fluid ounces of wine has roughly 5 net carbs. 5 fluid ounces is considered a "glass" of wine. And it's roughly a 1/3 cup. Many people drink way more than that as their "glass of wine". So measure out 5 fluid ounces of water and see if that is indeed what you drank per glass, yesterday. Frankly, since you're measuring water now, you might want to sip the 5 fluid ounces of water and see if that was "about" right for yesterday's glass.

Strawberries have 5 net carbs per 1/2 cup. Grapes are roughly 1 net carb per grape. Raspberries are about 5 net carbs per 1/4 cup. Again, look at your measuring cups and see if that's what you ate yesterday.

Personally, I wouldn't go back to Induction. Just pick up where you left off in OWL and take it from there. If you are still finding your CCLL, you might want to stay put for a week or two until things are back to normal, then proceed on.

          Hi all,

Thank u for the feedback and advice.

I have taken it all on board and decided to stay on OWL, i did my weigh in to day and had lost another 2lbs! so it looks like i hadnt done too much damage, with my cheat. Im also lucky that i have a low metabolic rate, so that helped.

I was going to move up a rung today, but i think i will wait until next week as TOM is looming.

Luckily when i cheated with the fruit and wine, i didnt experience any big cravings, so im really looking forward to rung 4 with the berries, next week i will start rung 3 with the nuts and seeds.

Actually I think you made really good choices and did really well considering that there were no rung friendly foods for you. I've always thought that when you are stuck in a situation like this, you are far better off eating higher rung foods, than completely tossing your woe out the window for the day, which is what many people do.

I read in DANDR that it only takes a few days on induction for get back into ketosis if you want to start again. I've found that to be true (2 days for me) and then I went right back to where I was. I actually don't count or test anymore, but this was true for me in the past. I'm sure glad you ate fruit instead of cake. I'm a lucky person that has no problem with fruit. Good luck!
