  • Starting up the rungs again...

I have a question about the rungs - I stepped back to induction because I don't think I did them properly before. So I want to make sure I'm understanding this if you don't mind.

Right now I try to stay at 20 net carbs or below. Sometimes it's 15, sometimes 18, but always under 20. First I add veggies, 5 grams a day. So I need to aim for 25. Do that two weeks, then move to dairy. Supposedly though aren't you supposed to only move up if your body is responding? My body hasn't 'responded' in 3 weeks So how can I find my CCL or whatever it is if I'm not losing? I can't even lose doing induction right now. Okay, so assuming you tell me I can go ahead and move on, we're only supposed to add the new food, let's say I start eatting cottage cheese and low carb milk on occassion, 3 times a week at first, right? So I'm up to 30 g net carbs, the first week I only add cottage cheese 3 x week then the other 4 days I use veggies to get to 30 or just eat 25 g carbs? Can I add cottage cheese 2 x and milk once or must they be added on separate weeks?

I'm sorry for all of the questions, but I got loose with OWL the first time and didn't track it carefully. I want to be exact this time. I sure am anxious to get to berries, though, it's strawberry season here! I live for the once-a-year pick and eat strawberries, so what are my chances I'll get them before they are gone (end of May, first of June)?

Lastly, I read if you're stalling that maybe L-carnatine and COQ10 can help. Do any of you take it and did it help? Is there a cheap(er) place to get it?

Thank you!!! (I've read the book, several times, seriously, but I just want to be sure!)

Re: Starting up the rungs again...

You add 5 net carbs to your current Induction level carbs. So if you average 17 carbs daily, then you add 5 net carbs to that 17 for a total of 22 net carbs.

Rung 1 is just adding 5 net carbs of any Induction veggie to your current menu. If the food is new to you, that is you haven't been eating it while on Induction, is added every other day. For example, you didn't eat artichokes during Induction, but now you want to have them. Add 5 net carbs of artichokes on Monday, Wednesday, Friday. See what happens in terms of pounds and inches. Also look at the chart in Blood Sugar Symptoms chart in the book and see if you are experiencing any of those symptoms. If not, then you can add the food daily and see what happens.

A food that isn't new to you can be added daily. For example, you have been eating broccoli during Induction and you want to add 5 net carbs more of broccoli. You can add it daily if you want.

So I'm up to 30 g net carbs, the first week I only add cottage cheese 3 x week then the other 4 days I use veggies to get to 30 or just eat 25 g carbs?
You can do that if you want.

Can I add cottage cheese 2 x and milk once or must they be added on separate weeks?
You can add them together like that. But you might not be able to tell which food has affected you. So it's 'safer' if you add them on separate weeks. Again, monitor your pounds and inches, but also use that Blood Sugar Symptoms chart. I found that the Blood Sugar Symptoms chart gave me a more "immediate" answer to whether or not a food has affected me, rather than waiting a few days to weigh and measure myself.

Thank you so much. I hadn't even seen the blood sugar symptoms chart, I must have overlooked it, but will be sure to use it often now.
