  • Oh No! Ketostix turned pale this morning!

    After going along and never showing anything lighter than medium to large ketosis, the stix turned pale this morning, only showing a trace. I upped my carbs to 30 grams this week and am now on rung #2. I know that I have read that it doesn't matter how light or how dark they turn, just as long as they turn, but I have also read that as you are going through OWL, they will turn just before you reach your CCLL or ACE. Any thoughts here?

    Also, I usually do me ketostix test first thing when I wake up. This morning however, the maid had moved my ketostix bottle and I found it after I had worked out and after I had my morning breakfast. Does testing yourself right after having breakfast or working out effect the testing? When does everybody else test themselves?

    After reading your post, I got curious and wondering if I should buy some of these. So I did a search. Check out the links here: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/showpost.php?p=648963&postcount=5Some interesting info about those things. I'll just wait for a while on buying them.

      I won't register hardly anything after exercising. That's because your body is using all of the ketones for energy.

        ARe you still losing weight or inches? If so, don't worry too much about those ketostix: they only measure the excess ketones in your body.

          You're not supposed to test in the morning - it'll give you an incorrect color.

            Thanks all! I am still losing weight and losing inches, so I wasn't quite as concerned. The only concern that I had was my ability to climb the rungs on the ladder and where my carb tolerance was going to cap out at. If only at 30, I knew it would be a problem for me.

            Makes sense about the exercise. Thanks Joy! I should have figured that most of my ketones were spent sweating during the exercise and were now being used up for energy.

            I never had heard before though that testing the strips the first thing in the morning would give it a false reading, because the body had been fasting all night long. I always thought that it was the best way to tell if you did things right from the day before.

            The good news is that I got into a pair of pants this morning that were several sizes smaller than when I started my journey back in August!
