  • How many seeds and Nuts?

    3 3/4 oz Macadamias (Dry Roasted)
    2 1/4 oz Almonds (Dry Roasted)
    1/4 cup Peanuts (Dry Roasted)
    2 tbsp Peanut Butter (Natural, no sugar added)
    1 cup Coconut meat (Fresh, shredded)
    2/3 cup Coconut milk (liquid expressed from grated coconut meat, water added)
    1/4 cup Sunflower seeds (Hulled)
    2 1/4 oz Sunflower seeds (With hulls)
    3/4 cup Walnuts (Shelled)
    1/2 cup Pistachios (Roasted)
    4 1/2 oz Pecans (Dry roasted)

    I was wondering what that transfer to when ure counting them because its just so much easier to count them and then hide the rest haha...

    P.s. Is that amount for Pishachios with or without the shell?

    I think Dr. A limits you to one ounce of nuts. For example, 4.5 ounces of pecans is 5g net carbs, but it is also 80 halves, and 880 calories. Though we say not to count calories on Atkins, I would definitely stall my weight loss eating that much. Nuts are notoriously difficult to portion control, so measuring them is wise.

      I always weigh my nuts out to 1oz, and put them in little ziplock bags. That way I always know how much I'm eating, because I could sit there and eat the WHOLE THING!!! The most I have ever eaten is 2oz in one day, but nuts are very high in calories (and can be high in sodium which can cause you to retain water).

        Yeah, the Power of 5 in the stickies is misleading about nuts. Nuts and seeds are limited to 1 ounce during OWL, with the exception of cashews which are limited to 1/2 ounce.

        I don't eat nuts plain as snacks. I incorporate them into my meals by using them as an ingredient in my foods. For example, using ground or chopped nuts as stuffings for mushrooms, chicken, etc. or using ground or chopped nuts as a substitute for flour. I toss toasted nuts onto salads or steammed vegetables as a substitute for bread croutons.
