  • how can i be up 3 lbs in one day?

    Arrgh..im feeling frustrated today! Last week i was down to 274, even by my Drs scale. Things have been going swimmingly..slow but steady. Saturday the kids and I were sick with bad colds so we did nothing all day but watch movies. I didnt get my exercise in..and I didnt drink all my water that day (only had haf)..but my eating was the same..havent cheated at all. Although i did have two bites of a frozen low carb cheesecake..it was disgusting (splenda tastes bitter to me) so i threw it out. On Sunday, I was up 3 lbs (4 by the end of the day). I weighed my kids to make sure the scale wasnt off..lol But it was fine.
    Drank more water on Sunday..and today (mon) im 276. Is this normal weight fluctuations? Its just frustrating because I feel like Im trying soo hard..every day is a struggle..especially when the kids and hubby are eating ice cream and pasta and crap and im sticking to my meal plan. I didnt expect it to go down every day..but certainly not go up! Should i just avoid the scale? BTW, im still in ketosis according to the strips. Does this happen to anyone else? I dont want to lose my motivation.

    Indymom.. PLEASE don't give up.. Last week that was me..
    Monday I was 277..Tuesday 275, Wednesday 277,Thursday 279 and Friday 273.. See how crazy that weight went down and up and down again.. Keep on doing what you are suppose to and you will see the loss.. When in doubt..check your measurements too..

      I found that my digital scale has a 3lb window of evil. One day last week I tried to see how much if fluxuated. I got off, got on, got off, got on. Held something I knew the exact weight of and then got on without it and IT DIDN'T BUDGE!

        Oh and never weigh yourself at the end of the day. Why? Sometimes you'll drink/eat and haven't passed it out and it might be 2 hours later and you're wondering what the heck is going on.

          That is the reason I weigh once a week.

          I think about it like this... there have been some weeks where I lost 1 pound. If I had been on and off the scale 7 times that week, and observed all that bouncing around day by day, how do you get excited or even trust a 1 pound loss over 7 days of agonizing over it? I step on the scale once every Sunday morning, and it is what it is. Then, I can get excited over a 1 pound loss for a week.

          Just something to consider.

              When I was in the weight loss phase my weight would go up and down like a yo-yo, sometimes several pounds. It was always distressing, but I got to realise that that's just the way I am... over say a week or two, if the trend was downward, I'd be happy. And every time I hit a new low, it felt awsome. Day to day fluctuations mean nothing.

                OK thank you all..whew..i am feeling much better about it now. So i was probably over-reacting..but after failing at weight loss surgery ive felt rather hopeless and like a freak who cant lose weight. Glad to know its pretty normal and im not neccersarily doing something wrong. Im hoping to lose (at least) 30 lbs by Aug..for my Vegas vacation with my cali girlfriends who i havent seen in a couple of years. That should be doable, right. I already bought a hot dress in a size 20, a little ahead of myself, i know.

                Sandy, btw..your current pic looks great! The weight loss really shows!

                  They do say you should only weigh in once a fortnight!!


                  I can jump on and off the scales and have a 7 lb difference from one day to the next but have stopped panicking about it now - I know I am being 'good' hmm apart from maybe a bit too much cream on my rhubarb but you should find the truth in your clothes - obviously not day to day but as weeks go by - don't forget you didn't put the weight on in a few weeks - it prob took a good few months and will take the same to come back down! - The slower it comes off - the more likely you will keep it off as well!

                    I also vote for not weighing yourself every day. My first time around I would weigh myself once a week on Friday mornings.

                    This time I'm doing it once a month. I know this WOE works for me and I don't need the emotional up and down that the scale brings.

                    As I progress I'll probably go back to once a week, but every day is just too much! Too many fluctuations!

                        I think i figured out why i gained the weight (it still hasnt come off).. the jar of spaghetti sauce i used was an organic one loaded with organic sugar! DOH! It was next to the one I had also bought that had no added sugar. I made pasta for the kids but for me just had it on a plate with sausage, a little shredded cheese and veggies. The next day had some leftovers over my eggs. Grr..so yeah, im still learning..watch for those hidden carbs.

                          Oh Indymom, those evil evil scales! It never fails to amaze me how much they can fluctuate from day to day. So much so, that now, I only weigh on Mondays. I couldn't cope with the trauma of it all! Sometimes I can't help myself and I have a sneaky peak during the week. And if I come across someone elses scales its too much of a temptation than to see if that might weigh me a little less!

                          But for me, I only count the weight that the scale says on a Monday. This monday, my scale was evil..... no loss.....no gain though, so thats a bonus!

                            I agree with the other posts. Just weigh weekly or biweekly. It's hard not to jump on the scale each morning, but it's not worth the stress. BTW...I gained and lost the same 5 pounds for 4 weeks in a row once. The weight loss WILL start again. Don't get discouraged!

                              Thanks for your replies. I know the consensus is to not weigh yourself everyday. But I just feel like something is wrong. I weighed again today and im up 5 lbs. I use fitday, im back on induction veggies abt 1200 cal, ive cut cheese out..I dont eat pork rinds or too much sodium..and im drinking abt 120 oz water...and im not losing inches. In fact, the clothes that were falling off arent falling anymore. Argh. I dont think im retaining water. The only other thing that has changed is that I started a new med..Januvia. Its supposed to be "weight neutral"..meaning it shouldnt affect your weight either way. If the scale keeps going up im gonna drop the med. I feel like ive been setback 2 weeks. With the huge amount of weight i need to lose..it just doesnt make sense that i can gain on 1200 cal. I wonder if the blood sugar thing has anything to do with it..or the fact that my liver doesnt function well (its not getting rid of waste properly).
                              Alrighty, i guess this does happen to other people and im not alone..just gotta stick it out..which is what im gonna do. But i am mighty depressed about the whole thing.
